Ive heard a few people chatting about using a computer monitor for their PS3 rather than an HDtv... any reason why?

Picture-in-picture/ease of sitting at your desk while having access to a LCD/etc. Its the same shit, just smaller size.
used mine cuz i could actualy get 720p atleast with it on a 22in monitor. Than my shity 30in Standard. Shits awesome till u can get something with more real estate.
hdmi cord
or hdmi > dvi. Have at it
Gotcha! Thanks!
Not having to pay $800+ for a TV that does the equivalent of my PC monitor. Saves desk space also using the one screen for both devices.
I run dual 26inch monitors at 1920x1200, plugging my ps3 into one through HDMI was the best idea ever.
Browse the internet or play a game on one monitor while watching a blueray or farming on ff13 or something in 1080p on the other. Sit in my comfortable as computer chair, play sound through my sennheisers. I prefer it over my 60ish-inch LCD downstairs with home theater/surround.
My opinion is probably different because I'm surrounded by screens. 3 for my pc, laptop and HDTV are all pretty much in a circle.'
PS. my sig is amazing with the pic above it.

If your going to hook up your PS3 to a monitor then you have to make sure it has HDCP support or else it won't work. I have my PS3 hooked up to a 22" 1080p monitor right now, i'll post links to what i used to hook it up with.

Using some cheap speakers to go along with, everything works perfectly.
^ make sure when you do that, to set the sound output to left/right. Still need the regular cables plugged in for sound. (Not sure if it was mentioned in thread or not)

With this handy device I can switch my HDMI output around without having to unplug any wires. So when the wife is around and wants to watch TV on the big screen then I can play PS3 on my computer monitor. Then when she is not around I can play on the big screen but can still watch TV on my monitor.
HDTVs max out at 1920x1080, and computer monitors can go higher for the same screen size. Having a larger but lower resolution screen just means it won't be as clear when you are closer, and most people don't need a 30"+ screen. If table space is at a premium, a monitor is more versatile and less expensive.
Just get a cheap monitor with HDMI <300$ thats 24"+ with 1920x1200 with 1:1 scaling, asus makes a few great products for this with speakers attatched.
Plug ps3 into monitor through HDMI, done, play. If you don't want to use monitor speakers they usually have a line out to go into PC/stereo to play sound through there. Pretty simple shit and great quality. Like I said I couldn't be happier running dual 26inch asus monitors one with ps3 plugged in so I can just change the source and play ff13 while I'm doing whatever else on the other.
I recently got a PS3 and was lucky enough that my current monitor pretty much let me plug and play and switch in between what I'm working with.

As it is, I'm hooked up
HDMI - PS3
DVI - PC
D-Sub - Laptop (as extended background)
I just switch between inputs and have fun![]()
