Got a meteor last fight and just went over entire log prior to it, nothing magical. The only unusual thing was that it was the same fight derock described, changed from dancing tail to chaos blast with nobody standing in front of it.
One other thing worth noting is that on the Yilbegans I've fought, under 5-10% it started to resist all physical damage not executed during a spell or TP move. Literally did 0 damage unless it was casting or TP'ing.
I'm sure a lot of people know this, but as far as that graph is concerned it wasn't included.
I'm not so sure on this, when we first fought Yilbegan in Xarcabard, all we had on it was SMNs doing preditor claws, and it was pretty much acting as if it were raged, it would do, Ga -> Dancing tail -> Aura + Wings up Chaos Blast, Dark Start, Dancing Tail, Chaos Blast, Dark Star, Meteor. then we wiped, it did that both times we did it in Xarcabard, we eventually just took the fight to west saruta and nearly won, but the mob got pulled to far away, and when both tanks died from a 900 dancing tail it instant depop'd but it never did chaos blast, gained aura, or used meteor
when we downed our first Yilbegan, in East Ronf, it went ape shit at the last 10% but never did meteor, it did chaos blast I think twice, and its aura only came up twice, wings would go up kinda freqently and we noticed it gained ATK and DEF boost, also with wings up, Sole Douce went from a 10 second doom to a 5 second
edit: forgot to mention that our damage was mainly black mages, with 1 SAM doing solo SC, we found that Yilbegan would cast an Elemental Ga spell once every 40 seconds, followed by dancing tail right after, and when casting an Elemental Ga spell black mages did not get resisted, and when hitting the MB, their damage was consistent 1.5k+
The last few minutes weren't included because my food wore off. It would have been harder for me to see a resistance since I popped on different food, started using berserk, and changing my position a lot.
The major reason for posting the graph was to show there was a clear pattern in it's damage taken~
If you combine the wings/up theory with the casting/TP move theory it perfectly explains the graph.
Low points in red boxes are shots that landed while wings are up and it's not using a tp move/casting.
High points in red boxes are shots that landed while wings are up and it's using a tp moving/casting.
Low points in blue boxes are shots that landed while wings were down and it's not using a tp move/casting.
High points in blue boxes are shots that landed while wings were down and it was using a tp move/casting.
Voila.
Well like I said, 7 in a row might still be too small of a sample size because we are 15min kill with a blu pt and a rng pt and 0 meteor. The first 3 fights we had SOME sort of elemental attacks and ALL 3 used meteor at least once. I certainly think this is still a plausible theory for eliminating meteor from what it can do or drastically cut the chances. Take it for what it is worth but a blm is never gonna beat what a rng or blu can do on this guy anyways. /shrug
we've had a blm pt at all 15ish and it has tried to cast meteor 2-3 times only, all interrupted.
It's not a black magic trigger
2-3 times in 15 kills is still = 0 for 12 of them. That's a larger sample size than yours on it's own.
3/15 and 0/12 are not the same.
There sample = 2-3/15 used meteor while using blms.
Ours is 3/3 used meteor with blms
and 0/7 without.
Though their sample size is larger by 5 it doesn't prove anything. All it shows is that Blms or black magic does not ALWAYS trigger meteor (which I think most of us already knew). The question remains does it increase its chance.
ie - hey a black magic spell just hit me at such and such time (possibly related to when it is in a certain mode), I now have a 2% chance of retaliating with meteor. Speculative, sure, but with what our sample has shown us that is what we think until we get one that shows otherwise.
Admittedly, that speculation could be wrong and it could be either something else entirely that triggers it or totally random but from what I have seen so far and from the reports of others I think total randomness is much more unlikely than something triggering the event.
Assuming black magic is a trigger for meteor is reasonable -until proven otherwise-. Clinging to your point after that and trying to say that black magic increases the chances is utterly retarded. As far as dia, I would sure hope you use it for your RNGs too..
We had 0 BLM's and he used Meteor once.
Perhaps that's because SMN's tried using elemental pacts once. Or the COR using shots.
Knowing SE, it probably has something to with day/weather.
Also does anyone notice Yilbegan is probably the only HNM that doesn't use a 2hr ability? Only Tier 2 spam 2hrs.
That was kind of my point. I know sarcasm can can be hard to read over the internet, but my point was that if people believe in something, they will try and find evidence in anything. Like this:
We had 0 BLM's
But did you do magic damage?
Dia for 0
See! That's magic damage! Even though it hit for 0! That's proof; if he's hit by magic he use meteor!
I'm not clinging to anything and infact stated:
"Admittedly, that speculation could be wrong and it could be either something else entirely that triggers it or totally random but from what I have seen so far and from the reports of others I think total randomness is much more unlikely than something triggering the event."
Call it/me retarded if you want but the first thing I posted was to ask for people (like yourself) to post your results. You happened to have some conflicting results which is fine. You could have just said that and done without the shit before it.
Anyway on with some meaningful contribution, it WOULD be dumb to not use dia while using rangers as part of the DD so I THINK we did but i'm not entirely sure and would have to check with one of the guys that parse the entire chat logs to be sure. I was more focused on tanking to worry about making sure the rdms were using Dia when we kill in 15mins as is. I think most fights the only rdm in alliance was the one in tank pt so I would not be surprised if Dia has been overlooked for us. Not saying AhHa! that is the cause but again I simply do not think it is total randomness or weather based or moon phase or shit like that.
