Sound drivers

So I was advised to update my sound drivers since ff14 was completely silent and... now I have no sound at all. I'm not sure what I should do because there is the audio developers drivers (which dont work) and the mobo audio drivers (which also dont work) and I have no idea what to do.

Uhhh I dunno. I'm pretty sure it's part of the motherboard. If that answers your question maybe.

yea thats onboard then :D. did you make sure you uninstalled, reinstalled the correct drivers from your manufacturer's site?

Hmm nope I don't think I uninstalled em. Which one should I uninstall, I have a ton of random audio drivers.

ATI function driver for HD Audio
Audio codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Realtek HD Audio

Already got those drivers and they didn't work unless I did something wrong. I also use XP.

Okay so realtek should be your audio drivers, uninstall those. Download/Install those two audio files on gigabytes' site. And see where that gets you again.

One of the two from gigabyte's site didn't do anything when I ran setup.

that sucks. if you right click My Computer -> properties -> device manager (im on windows 7 so its a bit different where they are located for you) .. do you see any yellow question marks?

Ugh ummm this was recommended before but go into sound in control panel and make sure everything is pointed to output on your realtek audio. Make sure theres nothing stupid going on too. Like volume is muted, speakers not turned on, plugged into wrong spot in motherboard, stuff like that.

Not muted (everythings at loudest), stuff should be in the mobo anyway since this was working before I fucked with drivers.

Volume says "Realtek HD etc".

I think part of the problem was maybe I didnt install a driver. I found that I installed this (the middle one)

I got the codecs (and ignored the warning that it might break stuff >.>). Should I get new codecs or something?

really, if there's anything I learnt from Realtek chip over the years, is that you better not fuck around with their drivers or you'll regret it for a while.

God knows how many time I had to reinstall fully Windows just to get them to work.
