SEC employees caught fapping at crashing economy.

(CNN) -- As the country was sinking into its worst financial crisis in more than 70 years, Security and Exchange Commission employees and contractors cruised porn sites and viewed sexually explicit pictures using government computers, an SEC investigation obtained by CNN showed.

"During the past five years, the SEC OIG (Office of Inspector General) substantiated that 33 SEC employees and or contractors violated Commission rules and policies, as well as the government-wide Standards of Ethical Conduct, by viewing pornographic, sexually explicit or sexually suggestive images using government computer resources and official time," said a summary of the investigation by the inspector general's office.

More than half of the workers made between $99,000 and $223,000. All the cases took place over the past five years.

"It is nothing short of disturbing that high-ranking officials within the SEC were spending more time looking at pornography than taking action to help stave off the events that brought our nation's economy to the brink of collapse," said Rep. Darrell Issa. The Republican is a ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

"This stunning report should make everyone question the wisdom of moving forward with plans to give regulators like the SEC even more widespread authority," he said. "Inexplicably, rather than exercise its existing regulatory enforcement authority, SEC officials were preoccupied with other distractions."

Is it just me, or does this seem like the most non-newsworthy article yet?

I sure as fuck have looked at porn at work before. It's dumb to do when your workplace monitors your websurfing, but of course it happens from time to time.

This just in, employees at CNN probably look at porn on work machines too, or have at some point.

Think it's safe to assume any PC connected to the net will see porn at some point, intentional or not.

More seriously approaching the article, what exactly is the intent of their jobs? Figure they can watch the stocks and such, noting trends, blah and blah, but I doubt they're within the boardrooms of these various companies having the play-by-play, and in turn having a tight leash on insider trading or backroom deals.

In other words, it's probably a slow-paced job where shit like this wouldn't affect performance unless someone was being really, really, really stupid about it. At that point, just fire the nimrod. It's not news.

I support corporate porn surfing. Sometimes you just need to relieve some tension. I bet it wouldn't have made the news if they'd been banging secretaries in janitor's closets. I like how they try to spin it like a few minutes porn surfing had an effect on the economy.

Next story: National Treasury employees have Mexican food for lunch, time that could have been spent balancing the budget was spent in the bathroom. More at 11.

Yeah...i'm sure they were spending more time looking at porn than doing their jobs. I'm sure over 50% of their time in the years they worked at the SEC was porn-surfing.

    Jesus Christ.

Oh but Sylvr, it's a violation of the commission rules and policies. Surely, you too believe they should be punished.

Because people in the SEC were surfing for porn, it must mean that the charges of fraud against Goldman Sachs are lies.

Work at any company long enough, government included, and you'll come across people who look at porn on the clock. In fact, it's one of the easiest ways to get fired from a government job, because it's such a clear violation of policy. Yet people do it anyway, and get dismissed for vague reasons like "improper use of government property." Want to know the best part? Only the most senior government have offices in most agencies, so lots of these people are looking at porn in their cubicles, not even attempting to hide it.

If you are looking at porn at work, and your company specifically forbids it and can fire you for it, you have a legitimate mental problem and should seek help.

this is basically the conservaspin already being woven, lol.

also this is just the SEC being market-friendly: jerking off while letting corporations run loose. hopefully the new regulations will change this.

Dear god if you need to fap, get a web based cell phone, lock yourself in the bathroom for a few minutes and have fun. At least those idiots keep me in a job since I wind up being the one who has to scrub there aids encrusted hard drives clean or re-image the computer every time they fuck it up.....

The government logs the shit out of everything you do on their computers. Most of the time they don't care (which is why you never hear about it), but if they have a reason they'll dig deep.
