Keep in mind that illegal immigrants are generally considered a boon to the economy and contrary to popular belief, it's hard to collect social services without proof of citizenship.
Not at all. But I'd say that any government that sees it's impoverished citizens moving out and taking their problems elsewhere is breathing a little easier.

If suddenly those people no longer could emigrate and instead remained in their respective countries, what do you think the result would be? If those economic opportunities instead went to citizens instead of illegal immigrants, would the nation as a whole be better for it? Is reducing poverty in our own country worth keeping non-Americans out of it?

The ugly part is that it really is an all-or-nothing. Either we as Americans have the right to deny immigration into our country, or anyone who isn't a criminal should be allowed entry and the path to citizenship thrown wide open.

    You're retarded.

Do you know how expensive it is to get smuggled into the US? its not for poor people so before you continue opening your fucking mouth do a little research.

Ask any Mexican living in Mexico if they're breathing easier with an unemployment rate at up to nearly 25%.

Ask Mexicans living in mexico especially in states near the border if they breathe easier when fucking Cartels are attacking Mexican Military bases and mass decapitations of public officials on practically a daily basis.

All this in order to feed our ever growing drug habit.

Your mocking might actually be effective if it was accurate, but again you prove what a clueless fucking moron you are...in addition to someone who can't fucking read.

Driver's license is mentioned once in the actual law:

    Sec 9 Par D Item 3 Subitem (a)

If applies to the fact that a vehicle does not have to be impounded if a law enforcement officer arrests the driver of a vehicle under this legislation if the spouse of the driver is present and can provide a valid DL (along with other requirements).

It's on Page 16 of this .pdf web document from the state of Arizona.

The notion of showing a DL is how legal "experts" are saying the law will be enforced. But in the article you originally linked to backup your erroneous claim, the Phoenix Vice Mayor (who I'm sure knows less about this that Swamp the moronic internet poster) specifically states that they can only guarantee this with an Arizona DL, because the state requires proof of citizenship to obtain a licesnse; DLs from other states may not be enough; i.e. cop stops someone, suspects he's illegal, but guy shows him a WA DL. Common sense says to let him go, but because WA doesn't require proof of citizenship for all it's licenses (just the Enhanced DL), LEGALLY, he has to take the guy to jail under this law until additional verification can clear him. If he lets him go and the guy gets busted later on for something like murder, robbery, etc., the police department can be sued for not strictly following the letter of this law.

Maybe you should try actually reading the law before you continue to comment like the fucking moron that you are. But hey, then you might realize why you don't have a leg to stand on and that people have legitimate reasons to criticize this law

Some reasons for the uproar are even causing it to be amended.

    Changes are minor, but interesting.

Enough reasons that it's being rewritten

    Changes are minor, but interesting.
Clearly, before this law, Arizona has never had a reason to stipulate how to determine someone is an alien. Thus, it was an error for multiple newspapers to state that in Arizona a DL is all that is required to prove citizenship because it's not stipulated in this law.

Now, what that guy said is mere speculation, the law says a DL. That's it. If you can't tell the difference b/w speculation and what a law says, keep entertaining me with your idiocy.

Well to be fair I did ask you to cite where it was written that a DL is proof of citizenship and you have never got back to me swampy.

and I even posted this story to prove my point and again you ignored me.

I haven't found it yet. I can only assume it was stipulated in another law. And again, that happened before this bill was passed, evidenced by the last sentence.

I don't know why. It looks like it was a federal agency though, not an Arizonian one.

Quite a bit to get smuggled in. And those drug cartels are happy to help, since all those backs make nice carriers for meth. And yes, people save up to get handled across the border. Why? It's worth it- life is better over here. Human smuggling and drug smuggling are tied together at the border.

A very porous border, even with what people we do have on the job. Which why the piles of people, drugs, guns, and money flowing across it are all symptoms of the same problem- when people can get into our country and move around it illegally, crime follows. In droves. On both sides of the border. If we don't clean up one, we won't clean up the others.

And where is that collection of misery worst in Mexico?

I love broad generalizations. Reminds me of when Lou Dobbs claimed that Mexicans brought Leprosy into the United states intentionally.

I'd agree that the leprosy thing is full of shit. Myself, less so.

    http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE63E6AK20100415

240K arrests over human trafficking and drugs at the border last year. Thousands of dollars a head, some paid directly, some paid partially in kind, others turned into debt slavery in sweathouses or other labor schemes.

    http://www.startribune.com/nation/91...EaPc:UiacyKUUr

Those gangs engage in both, across an underprotected border, generating millions for criminals. Meth, pot, cocaine, human beings. There's money in moving all of them over the borders, and the criminals go where the money is. Including using illegals as cash cows.

Now, far as legalizing some of that drug trade? All for it, far as pot goes. Some drugs just aren't sane or humane to supply to a human being, considering. Even if they wanted to take them.

Local Flagstaff, AZ government has passed some sort of motion to sue the state over SB1070, and here's an article dealing with the local right-wing loony response:

    http://azdailysun.com/news/local/art...049b2ca38.html

At least one person wants to see the Flagstaff City Council hanged for their unanimous decision to oppose the state's controversial new illegal immigration law.
But at least the anonymous death threat allows for due process.

"Each of you should be arrested, tried in court, found guilty of treason and hanged from the nearest tree!" stated the author of the e-mail.

The person suggested the council cared more about "foreign nationalists" than the "safety and jobs and the future of your own citizens."

The author ended the e-mail "Death to traitors!"

The death threat was one of many messages sent to the Flagstaff City Council critical of their opposition to the new immigration law, or SB 1070. Of the 39 phone calls received by the city, only three were supportive of the council's decision.

At least one of the callers said they were made aware of the council action by radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

The reason it's so doubtful that a DL is all that's required is because it's so easy to get a fake one made, and cheap. There's also the fact that in many states, your employer requires more than that just to prove your identity when you start working for them, much less citizenship. Interestingly enough, a large part of why they had to require more info...is because of illegals slipping through through the cracks...with their fake IDs.

I was in a deli the other day, and these two middle-aged (and you guessed it, white) women near me started talking about the bill. They both agreed it was a good thing, linked it to an unrelated diatribe about benefits that American Indians receive (they get loads of benefits and all of them just come into the city to get drunk as fuck, apparently), and complained that illegals and Indians had it so easy while they were "scraping by."

Meanwhile their $10 a piece Wednesday lunches were dribbling down their fat chins. Really scraping there, cunts. I'm sure Jose is dining on filet mignon in the Home Depot parking lot a few blocks away.
