Production wise overall? Em up to encore (and by slight extension d12's stuff), Kanye up to graduation, Jay up to the black album. Lupe's stuff. Everyone else has this time where the production is on par with the quality of the lyrics, luda's has been at the very best decent. Luda keeps me coming back because he's generally just fun to listen to but I can't count the number of beats I really tend to think are lame.
It's all about fads and ringtones today.
I went for some really generic answers there btw. I think relapse and blueprint 3 have some amazingly produced songs but I will admit that as an overall album I like blueprint 2 (and quite a number of other albums) better than 3 and em's stuff when he doesn't sound like a dope.
Whatever faggot mod removed the link is going to be on the receiving end of my dick, faggot
Mos Def - Black on Both Sides
Asheru and Blue Black - Soon Come...
Most Def and Talib Kweli are: Black Star
Black Milk - Tronic (love this album)
Elzhi - The Preface
edit: Common - Be, and Finding Forever
There's more I can't remember at the moment, I'll have to go through my collection.
ya but I'm watching Jennifers Body and when we post at the same time shit runs slow
why
are you trying to punish yourself?
On a pure lyricism level Eminem is still on some retarded fucking shit. I find myself easily remembering everything he says because it progresses in a natural speaking flow. He's still the only person I know who can make a verse out of a full coherent paragraph, and it shows in some of the other artists that work with/under him (Everyone in d12 but bizarre [fuck that fat dumb asshole], obie trice, royce... 50 I find to be produced well but lyrically he's pretty much just mindless enjoyment when you can manage to do so). It's weird because I only listen to rap because I think of it as just well written rhyming comedy for the most part but em's solo stuff is rarely if ever particularly funny.
When kanye is slapped and put in the right place, he comes up with some incredible stuff. His part in forever, his part in run this town, his freestyles. He really just needs to cut the bullshit though.
Another example of someone who has really good production despite my HATING him as a fucking lyricist is lil wayne.
Ridiculous story but I think that's the point
I deleted 808's and heartbreak from my ipod, it's the only album I've actually done that to.
If you're in minnesota just go to any rhymesayers entertainment concert. P.O.S. is a part of doom tree but his stuff is a very extreme matter of taste. I love his stuff but it aint for everyone. On the other hand brother ali is great to listen to because on a base level of production and lyricism he knocks that shit out of the park every time.
i like lil wayne and i find myself really picky on the rap i listen to, i dont like trash.
