Late to the party, but oh well.

Used to do Incident management with Siemens on the Washington Mutual contract. I was 2 weeks away from them paying for my MCSE test, and 2 months away from Project Management before the government took control of WaMu and my team was laid off since JP Morgan and Chase had their own teams already.

Wamu had two separate teams. MS and Unix. I was able to work from home but chose to work at the local datacenter that was just 2 mins from me because it just made it much easier to yell at the technicians instead of them ignoring my calls. I was the only member from my team not in the Chicago office (Cali) so I got to be around to watch the guys from the datacenters be weeded out slowly. The two teams were cut down drastically, with the last couple months finally resulting in a team of guys who could manage both the MS and unix servers. From there loop holes were being found and the guys who were making less were the ones being kept around. Was sad to watch.

At the end it was me and 3 techs in a giant call center/data center all by ourselves. 500+ cubicles all empty, but atleast we all had a corner office for a few weeks lol. Was fun playing baseball and rolling around on the server carts though.

Anyways.. when times were better and there was more money to throw around, you could get by being just a master of one. But as times got worse the jacks of all things got to stay the longest.

Currently looking for work still, either im over qualified or under-qualified, it really is a fickle bitch these days with getting into IT.
