2) As compared to someone who would have paid for the movie if they did not pirate it, yes. As compared to someone who plain doesn't watch the movie, I don't offset anything

On an ending point, food for thought. Let's say I pirate a movie. I find this movie to be great, I absolutely loved it. I do nothing, but talk about this movie for a week to people who had never known it existed. They go out and buy/rent/see this movie. I just MADE the industry money as compared to if I had chose not to watch the movie at all.

I know you're done, but I really am curious to a question I asked. Do you have a copy of every movie you own for each member in your household?

if the argument continues compare it to public transport. If you stow away on a bus without paying, the bus is not losing money, since you would have walked otherwise. The bus is not diminishing in value or leaving anything that needs to be replaced, you are merely using the service without personal cost. Not the perfect analogy because you could make arguments about increased gas consumption and/or overcrowding the bus, but its still more accurate than stealing a car.
