Did they ever announce if Deathwing was coming before the Old God, or if it was the other way around?
Did they ever announce if Deathwing was coming before the Old God, or if it was the other way around?
I don't think they've announced it either way. I think I'd prefer the TBC model: "surprise the final boss wasn't in any of the trailers or on the boxart!"
But the impact there relied on rather well-connected lore (M'uru in Silvermoon City, Netherstorm quests, the takeover of Tempest Keep, etc) which frankly Blizzard is struggling to do with this latest expansion.
I wouldn't read too much into the holiday content on the PTR. Note that it was Halloween content unearthed on the PTR in August that unlocked mmo-champ's silence on worgen/goblins in Cataclysm (which released last December).
We're also at a slightly slowed pace between raid content. Ulduar came out 6 months into WotLK's lifespan. We're approaching the end of month 6 into Cataclsym and 4.2 is still at least another month or two away. It's always difficult to compare the current rate to the previous rate of progression since before WotLK progression was gated by buggy/overtuned bosses and stupid fucking attunement requirements. Remember that in theory, TBC launched with Hyjal available.
I'd prefer another "secret" final boss since DeathWing is extremely boring, and killing him won't be satisfying. Old God are the real boss behind everything in the first place, and this include Death Wing's madness, so they would make much more sense (imo).
I disagree with your lore comments though. There is an handful amount of lore revolving around the Emerald Dream (Nightmare) in Kalimdor that range from from Malfurion's escape from the dream itself, to the outgrow in Soutern Barren (direct consequence of Wailing Cavern), and the corruption in Feralas. There is quest everywhere, and I think it's going to become the prime concern of the Earthen Ring eventually.
Also, there is many hints pointing toward the Old God sleeping at the bottom of Vash'jr. You can see his corruption directly in the quest line and in Throne of Tides, and storywise, Isorath, and he is supposed to be the one at the source of the Dream and Deathwing's madness.
Even the nerubian's puzzle box talk about it occasionally, so we know it's comming.
I want my Sargeras raid encounter.
Sargeras is probably going to have a whole expansion dedicated to him. I'm sure they have some stuff planned for him and Medivh (who pretty much disappeared after WC3), they are just too important to not have another 2 minutes of fame.
If I had to makes a guess, I would say the next three expansion are going to revolve around the following plot line.
Old Gods (emerald dream and everything)
Infinite Dragonflight (led by Nozdormu?)
Sargaras/Medivh (with lesser demon like Varimathras and Mal'ganis who are still alive)
This cover pretty much all the big questions left...I think?
I have an aching feeling one of those will be ignored completely, my gut tells me Nozdormu. Which is sad, because I love the lore behind him.
I hope not.
It might end up being a small chapter like Ulduar or Fireland, but I believe it has a lot of potential for creative content, and they could easily build a whole expansion around that.
And if Deathwing is getting his own expansion. Another aspect that is more interesting in every way, could pull that off!
Yeah I could see that. Though, he really deserves a full expac, his lore is MUCH better than deathwing. Someone like Magatha Grimtotem is small chapter material, imo. The bitch needs to die for killing Cairne.
edit: i mean cmon! nozordomu!:

What happened to her in Thousand Needle questline anyway? Didnt you save her ass, and let her be?
Yeah, and she was a bitch to you the entire time tbh. It's really, REALLY awkward being a tauren saving Magatha and waving goodbye to her as she fades into the sunset. Y'know, since she killed our leader and all. Just dumb.
So anyone care to wager if the new Rated BG win mounts will require 100 wins from 4.2 on instead of being retroactive? Much like how the achievement to get 30k gold from quests isnt retroactive, even though you can clearly see in your statistics how much gold you've gotten from questing.
I would guess that's how they're gonna go, yeah. The wolves are fucking amazing, they're not gonna just give those away.
There are dailies that reward 20g?
ooh right tb...been a while since I stepped foot in there haha
you get 1-2 from the daily zone and 1 from the pvp zone that give more than 20g. The rest are 16g, I think. Stuff like shark attack, problim and 'kill the last dude in that underground areaa' are the 20+g quests. I'd have to double check.
Wow they are practically giving away 359 items once 4.2 hits lol
Dang BoT just became the Naxx Spider Wing. Pugs probably still won't be able to kill Nefarian though.
Holy shit thats a lot of nerfs.
I guess this means we're in the home stretch for 4.2.
Edit: oh that's ptr changes. Silly me, thought that was live changes.
