They play a more active role in their own survival through death strike. The problem isn't as out there as people make it seem, as was said in the official discussion thread, if they really were that far out ahead of other tanks you'd have people dropping and switching to death knight en masse, which isn't really happening.
Death strike is really the long and short of it. It's their best mitigation tool with blood shield. Knowing when to throw your death strike to best mitigate a large portion of damage is incredibly helpful.
Don't the blood shields stack now? Other than the heal itself I can't see how holding a Death Strike for a specific moment is useful...but I haven't played my DK since 80 so![]()
It does stack, but in most situations the shield is taken out by the next attack, leaving it with very little opportunity to actually increase the shield amount. The blue post on death strike nailed the issue. The big difference comes in knowing when you should be death striking, or reapplying your diseases. Admittedly you'll be death striking whenever possible anyway, which is why I don't really see why the issue is getting blown up as much as it has.
Personally I tanked the new Cata HCs with both a pally and a DK.
I must admit that DK left so much hard because of how their tanking works compared to a standard pally/warrior : instead of mitigating damages, you tend to suffer big hits and then regen back with DS. This, when you're new to an HC instance, in average gear and with a PUG healer, can really make your life miserable.
The only time that I've noticed it makes that big of a difference that they stack is in BH, after first fel firestorm I never take any damage from his melee swings between avoidance and blood shield, and anti-magic shell/mirror takes care of the slashes, it's pretty amusing to see
As for holding it, it does heal you for more if you've taken a large amount of damage recently, and obviously overheals are wasted. Death Striking when at full health and getting a cursory blood shield vs Death Striking 3 seconds later and healing the damage you just took from a large attack/bunch of attacks from trash, and getting a bigger blood shield on top of that, make all the difference (first thing that comes to mind is the damn trash right before Nalorakk in ZA, can make all the difference between not dying and wiping if your healer doesn't know that crunch armor and knockdown combined really hurt, and insists that casting just Heal should be good enough then ragequits because the tank doesn't know what he's doing :D)
- Recruit-A-Friend now awards bonus experience and free level grants to level 80, up from level 60.
I don't mind when they don't CC because cooldowns + good choices of when to Death Strike save me from that easily enough, but when they won't focus fire it's like 'wtf nubs, gtfo', it helps that I play a DK and a Priest, so I'm aware of both sides of the issue, I've had some good healers that know they need heavy heals on that pack itself and then it's quite easy, but the ones that think trash is all easy shit and they should never ever need to try? Fuck them with a flaming trident
Or at least hurry the fuck up with diablo 3 AMIRITE
I'm not anxious at all >.>
They've been giving away free WoW keys for months now, even to people who don't own WoW (i.e. SC2 players).
So mmo champion states the 4.2 patch is up somewhere for download, anyone know where? lol
I'm so not prepared (punt intended) for this patch :/, neither of my guild groups (alliance and horde servers) got enough players to succesfully kill anything in this patch in a timely manner. My hope is this tier is a pushover too, considering the latest blizzard track record with instances (easy bosses, hard trash) so I dont have to wipe 4 nights each week on the same boss.
