It's a sad dream we all have, that will never come true. Especially considering according to Blizz the entire story line for Throne of Tides is done with (for no reason other then laziness?) and we'll get no Abyssal Maw, even though they talked about it at Blizzcon (though they talked a lot of shit at Blizzcon and hardly any made it).

I can't imagine doing DS for another 6 months, that would just be pure torture. Even doing Firelands for what? 5 months total? That was grinding on people terribly and we were doing heroic content.

Pretty sure that yor'sahj and zon'zoz are elements from the Abyssal maw raid that might have been.

Probably the 2 things the encounters team had a chance to come up with before the whole idea was canned.

I thought ICC was "staggered" The wings were released one after another until LK.

    Saurfang -> 4 weeks -> Putricide -> 2 weeks -> Lana'thel -> 2 weeks -> Everything unlocked

It was pretty retarded and boring doing just the first four bosses on normal for 4 weeks.

I think they should have made ICC four different wings.

It was boring, but I don't think retarded. It allowed the "average" groups to feel like they were progressing on something more difficult than it actually was. Sure, it was not looked upon with a smile by the elite guilds of the time, but in all honesty, a good deal of the elite guilds on many servers were content on trying to get down Heroic Anub, seeing as that encounter was incredibly challenging on 25m (something that couldn't exactly be said on 10m.)

The entire methodology (minus the limited attempts mechanics) of ICC was done extremely well and served to lengthen the viability of the raid tier as a whole. Was it as fun killing LK after nearly a year of it? No, but if you ask yourself honestly, "Were you as unhappy with farming ICC for 9 months as you were farming Firelands for 9 weeks? Were you as unhappy farming ICC for 9 months as you were unhappy just plain raiding DS for the 7 weeks its been out? Were you as unhappy farming ICC for 9 months as you were farming those damned glaives for well over a year?" You will have to answer that ICC was perhaps done the best from top to bottom of any "final tier" since launch.

Yes being locked out was boring, but at least they gave you a good amount to do versus the gating in Sunwell or even the mediocre attempt to gate in ToC. These things help extend the life of content, and it is desperately needed when that raiding content is as much of a festival of free loot as Dragon Soul is. At least for the normal guilds Firelands was a challenge for a few weeks. DragonSoul was a joke from week 2.

An average group wouldn´t even beat Saurfang when ICC just got released due to the DPS requirement and average people sucking. Some guilds were having issues pulling off enough DPS untill nerfs came out.

Being boring I think Dragon soul is ok, TBC and ICC were more epic than Dragon soul honestly though. I think T11 Heroics were still most enjoyable.

I agree, out of the raids of this expansion, T11 was probably the best and most interesting. Not only did it have more bosses and 3 locations so it had different looks. But for the most part they were new boss models to a certain degree, interesting fights and a lot of content to do. I felt T12 was pretty blah, but still better then T13 which takes the cake in my eyes for mediocrity, like someone said, it feels like some bosses were thrown in there from the Abyssal Maw scrapped raid, and others were just checked in because they were running out of time or something.

Ulduar is still hands down on of my favorite raids that Blizzard has come out with, along with Naxx and all the raids of Burning Crusade.

Well whats to stop them from releasing an abyssal maw raid?

LK got ruby sanctum after the LK raid which didn't add any new tier(same with sunwell in TBC) but did add new gear and some filler story/raid between the final tier raid and the new expansion. I have a feeling 4.5 will see a new raid and be the last patch before 5.0 with Pandaria talents and changes act.

I think a lot of people forgot about that raid. I did at first till I thought about it being one boss and all.

Well 42% of the world has beaten Madness on normal, I remember when progressing on end bosses of a raid giving some rewarding feeling in the past when beating that, I don't really felt it with Dragon Soul. Normal was way too easy we cleared it the first week.

Also the DW encounter is a disappointment it didn't really have an epic feeling like Wrath or TBC, BT/Sunwell/ICC/Ulduar was pretty damn epic and fun. Not saying its bad just normal is really a joke otherhand heroic are challenging atleast.

Do you relize currently 17.715 guilds in the world have beaten 8/8 DS normal?

On another note only 1800-2000 guilds have beaten heroic Hagara/Ultraxion which is roughly 4-5%.

The thing is they made normal easy so people could see content and get into raiding. Heroic is a tough notch above though. I know a lot of guilds who do 8/8 no problem but anything past 1/8 is actually hard to make up for normal being so easy.

Blizzard wants people, even casuals who don't raid and find heroics still challenging to be able to see the content if for nothing more then the story. There is still plenty of content for the hardcores and I am impressed that Blizzard is still able to make heroics that test the very limits of the hardcore elitist players out there. I remember when BWD was finally cleared on heroic, it was months after when past content was only weeks. That is a pretty good step up for them from past raids.

Yeah, pretty sure casual guilds won't go past Morchok heroic untill a nerf hits DS. Heroic Zon'ozz is very healing intensive if your healers are not up to the job and your range are not dealing with the eyes quick enough the fight becomes pretty much a brick wall and so on..

And that right there is the balance to compensate for the easier DS normal raid. In the end it works out.

Yeah my guild does 8/8 easily enough, and Morchok heroic is pretty easy as well. The curve from there seems to just shoot straight up for everyone, which I'm happy about but it annoys me as well just because my guild is so terrible at doing anything that requires thinking on their feet or even following instructions it seems or being able to dps to their gear level. (lol @ people below 30k on Ultraxion)

Well whats to stop them from releasing an abyssal maw raid?
Well they said there was no chance at all they were going to do it for this expansion, but then again Blizzard has also said they would never allow faction tranfers or race changes or a ton of other shit they put into the game.

I don't remember Saurfang being particularly hard. Dozens of 25m guilds on my server had him down in the first week. Putricide, on the other hand, was no joke the first few weeks, especially with the extremely limited wipe count. But even then, you'd do your 10 attempts and that was that.

The biggest saving grace for ICC (which was mediocre, honestly, and the gating made for an extremely boring 2 months) was that it followed the worst raid tier in the game. ToC was so terrible--I remember when ICC came out, nobody wanted to go spend the 1 hr killing ToC bosses for BIS trinkets even though we cleaned up ICC in less than half of 1 raid night.

Also Halion raid definitely deserves to be forgotten. Terrible fight, preceded by like 30 minutes of trash. I think we bothered kill it like 4 times before we realized that people just didn't want to go even if it did have a few loot upgrades.

I was definitely more unhappy doing ICC month after month after month than I was 5 months into firelands, even despite firelands being only 7 bosses. 9 months is way too long to be on any raiding tier.

My napkin math of 2 weeks viability per boss says that DS should last us until the end of March before fatigue starts to really set in.

People didn't give a shit about halion because it was a few months before release and the mechanics of the fight were not simple post 50%. Who wants to actually work on a complex fight for obsolete gear? I think that was the main reason for people not caring then anything else.

That and Halion was just..annoying as fuck and boring really. I have no problem going into a raid with a bunch of bosses and working on 1 then the next on heroic, but going in to clear 30mins of trash to work on a single boss that was stuffed at the end is kinda meh >_<

The mini bosses kinda broke up the trash but I agree with you still. The boss was not easy though. Well for me it was but most people no.
