with it being just like wotlk and BC, you were never forced to go to one zone to level, and you won't be forced in cata either. After Borean Tundra i had the option of either going to Grizzly Hills, Dragonblight, or Howling Fjord, even though natural quest flow directed me into Dragonblight. I was never forced to go there, Cataclysm will more than likely follow the same pattern.

The difference between in cata and vanilla is the thousands of quests they are adding so you are aren't forced to cross continents to find quests because thats the only place quests exist for your level.

I can see where you're coming from, as someone who has leveled about 4-5 characters through all content spanning from Vanilla to WotlK. Problem is Blizzard has to cater to two crowds; the alts who want to quest>quest>quest>quest>quest>85>raid>raid>raid; and the new players who want to enjoy all the content the game has to offer (including a dynamic leveling experience). By allowing 1-60 on one continent it takes away from the leveling experience but feeds the alts who just want to plow their way to 85. Hopefully the quests will be more innovative to make up for it.

you really have nothing to worry about. there is nothing they could do to 1-58 to make it any worse than it is now. As it stands now a majority of players level alts to 58 simply on the dungeon finder alone, rarely doing any quests at all, which shows how terrible vanilla quests are compared to BC/WOTLK ones. And they truly are scattered across the world in small pockets that you need to hunt down. That won't happen in cataclysm at all, Blizzard does good on new content from what i've seen.

You can already do 1-60 on one continent as it is now, they are just making it a little smoother with less dryspots and less grindy. Why is this even being discussed let alone complained about. ZOMG THEY ARE MAKING WOW TOO EASY guess what it already is this way lol. You really don't have to leave either continent at all, people just do because of the loss of fluidity of quests and such which is being fixed in cataclysm

    1-60 now: Durotar (10-12) > barrens/stonetalon (to 25) > thousand needles (mid 30's) > decolace/dustwallow (can get into 40s) > feralas/tanaris/aszhara (50s) > felwood/ungoro/winterspring/silithus (up to 60) > outlands

Thank you for making questing more linear. I hate starting as an undead and wanting to jump straight to the barrens asap. I hate making a nightelf and trying to get a port to elwynn. I've done the questing grind from 1-60 in vanilla several times, from 60-70 and 1-70 several times, and from 70-80 and 1-80 several times. I appreciate them making it slightly easier by me not having to jump on a zeppelin, mount up, and run all the way to hinterlands or whatever. I can't stand when quests dry up on my alts, traveling around is the worst part of questing too me. I much rather do zone>zone>zone like in ffxi/wotlk.
It would be pretty easy to keep the questing 'linear' while still encouraging you to visit the other continent. Send you to Booty Bay and work outward from there or such.

The old zones were just more or less independently designed with no concept of flow, which is where it got obtuse.

Plenty of changes in both continents to keep either interesting all the way to outlands imo.

I'm not sure how deep the trouble is that Tonko could get in to for this, but I was told in no uncertain terms for the WoTLK alpha that the inviter (someone in QA) could lose their job over it.

There's also the whole requirement of the BC expansion itself to register WotLK on your account

This. I'm looking forward to the day where I can level a few new alts and it will be a new experience each time.

I'm not sure where in any of posts you see anything that could be called a complaint. Last time I checked this was the discussion board, and that's exactly what I'm doing . Considering they're changing nearly every 1-60 quest in Cata, and people are already questioning the lack of new content, I'd say it's a legitimate topic. I never said they were making wow "too easy" take that shit back to the MMO-champ forums, I said they were making it linear; as in, straight forward and boring.

I don't get why people say things like "linear; straightforward and boring". Yeah, it's so much more fun to run around for hours (in WoW no less) attempting to figure out where the fuck you should be questing.

Note: Cataclysm is coming, things are changing. There's cool shit in all of these "linear" quest hubs. And it makes so much more sense. You're actually a hero helping a cause.

yeah I like linear.. I don't like traveling the world just to find an area i can do 3-4 quests just to go look for another place because I don't meet the requirements for the previous place.

Some people may like traveling the world per level but I rather get higher level faster, not as slow as possible

I guess it's just a difference of opinion then; I really enjoyed having to travel long distances through enemy territories to reach my next destination and checking my quest logs and calculating flight and boat paths to complete quests. Sure it wasn't as fast, but it was a fun experience.

I find this pretty disappointing since it seems like they're making leveling 1-60 much more linear like it is in BC and WotlK. Enter one zone, do all quests, go to next zone, do all quests, rinse, repeat, etc. I rather enjoyed ping-ponging between zones within the same level range and figuring out when I could do certain quests and when I had to run to another zone and finish a few there before returning (I never used leveling guides). Either way I really don't like the "Level from 1-60 on one continent" thing they have planned. With how much of Azeroth they are changing I wanted some incentive to experience all the changes/ quests on a new character .
no incentive to explore is a little disappointing.
I agree though, I think it's lame, new players won't even know another continent even exists really.
These are Complaints. Not all you, of course.

You aren't the only one posting on this subject, I never called you out specifically for complaining, even though you were a part of it. They aren't changing nearly every 1-60 quest either.

If you like having to go from barrens, back to org, zeppelin up, mount from undercity all the way to tarren mill and arathi, then good for you - you can keep doing that in cat. You can explore every bit of every continent on every alt you make. Have you ever tried leveling a character in Silithus? You don't have to follow the "linear" questing if yo don't want to. If you are going to be a brat about this and tell people to take their shit "back" to MMO, hopefully you will be leading the way.

Did you play FFXI? Was that too linear for you as well?

You are acting like this is some big dramatic change thats going to make the game more boring or not as fun to level and oh noes you can't see the whole world.... My opinion on this is based on the fact that you can already get 1-60 on one continent... so whats the problem? Wow already has incentive to not leave the continent and explore. Wow already has linear straightforward questing. Wow already has boring, not as fun leveling lol. There is no reason to leave the continent now, except for the fact that it gets slow and some mobs are too high - they are going to add a few more quests and maybe more mobs to the areas and faster respawn rates. Why is it a problem for them to make this change?

lol ok, you're taking this a bit too seriously. I just answered someones question on Cata quests and gave my opinion on it.

And yes, I did play FFXI, for 6 years .

Exploring a new MMO world IS fun for a lot of people. I love coming to a brand new MMO and wandering through finding new stuff, finding flight paths in WoW at the start, tracking down quest npcs. It's tedious now because i've leveled a ton of characters, but the first time through it was worth it and fun.
