Well atm yeah like mentioned the cap is a Lv83 blue (unless someones crazy enough to work on 12000 rep at 250 per 45min all day long got to the Lv85 blue gear already), the "people that know wtf they are doing/geared" I see pulling 11-13K+ dps on average on both aoe/single target boss fights (that don't have some run around mechanic in the fight)
There is no realistic way to tell at this point due to the inability to get over level 83 blues and the fact that new enchants/gems/elixirs aren't implemented yet. Whatever you're doing now is pretty irrelevant especially if you're physical dps with any amount of ArPen gemmed into your gear. The first thing that happens to you at 81 is all your crit goes down the toilet and you won't be getting a whole lot back from quest greens.
Gulk's numbers are based off of Hunters, no doubt, because they are fucking overpowered killing machines right now.![]()
I'm not too happy with the prot paladin changes.
My abilities:
Crusader Strike(single target) / Hammer of the Righteous(Aoe) - Shared 4.5s cooldown, generates 1 holy power
Avenger's shield - 15s cooldown - 20% chance to reset cooldown when using an above move.
Judgement - 8s cooldown
Shield of the Righteous - Uses 1/2/3 holy power to do 20/60/120% AP to target
Consecration - 30s cooldown
Holy wrath - 15s cooldown
??
I don't have a rotation anymore, I have some loose priority system, but there is no "filler" ability to use, I just stand there wondering wtf to do. I have only one method of generating holy power, I won't get any more ever, just that 1 every 4.5s, making Shield slam every 13.5s. I can't use the new Inquisition spell, or if I do I pretty much can't use Shield slam ever, because Inquisition lasts 4s per holy power, making it 12s duration max and it takes me 13.5s to generate enough holy power to keep that up.
I need some other low cooldown move and/or something else to generate holy power, or it'll be quite boring to play, imo. It'll be close to what BC was, which was pretty meh.
I would just like a spell to dump my mana. It's impossible right now to burn through your mana pool, and the casting time on most spell isnt helping. Make flash of light instant or something, or give us back holy shock (not sure if everyone had it, but i know my pally glitched and i could use it for 3 weeks).
The lack of rotation doesnt bother me that much. In solo, it's can be a little annoying, but in party, I will be able to use my hands and stun more often.
It's not so much the lack of a "rotation" so much as there is often nothing I can do. I'm fine with a priority rotation and all that, but make it so I always have something I can press, instead of having to finger myself between crusader strikes.
You aren't supposed to be able to run out of mana, or even really give a shit about it as a resource in pve, that's just the way ret/prot/enhance are designed. The combo point system seems pretty retarded for prot thou, since you basically only use it on one thing (SoR), or maybe inquisition for a bit of AoE. If you were choosing between say, inquisition (extra threat/dps) and words of glory (extra healing) in how to spend your holy power, it would be a bit interesting.
All of the new resource systems for cata (holy power, soul shards, focus) seem really half-assed in general.
Thats why I asked for something to dump my mana. It would add a button to press, and a ressource to manage. I think it would be interesting for paladin to be able to toss heal occasionally while tanking
It seems like that's the intention with words of glory (and holy shock before that, which I thought was really cool as a baseline ability), but it doesn't work at all in the current design with it competing against holy shield which is tacked onto SoR/inquisition.
If they fix the numbers on it (almost nothing seems tuned at this point) and make it proc holy shield like the other finishers, it could be interesting. You also have holy radiance to use once per minute which I completely forgot about.
Oooo. So I finally managed to get hold of the new talent trees (for some reason Wiki didn't have them nor can I find them anywhere) via MMO Champ
I've just browsed a few specific forums so I might be missing some older discussion, but does anyone feel restricted or pigeon holed (on the DK tree at least)? I feel I have everything I need on one tree, and the other trees are just icing on the cake as I can't go any deeper. Maybe this is what they want us to feel ...
On a side note, this lets me take some talents that I would otherwise not take because I need to put them somewhere, and if the rumours I hear are true on retail, CC is important, at last I have a legitimate excuse to use hungering cold!
I'll post a pic later from Yu Yu Hakusho but someone in that anime (that ice ninja) basically uses the same move towards the end arc, I always admired how it cool it was XD
i felt that way with druid when they first converted to the 35 point talent trees, but now it doesn't feel that way at all. Balance and Feral(bear and cat) both dip into the resto tree for key talents, with optional choices being in the main trees still. Resto also dips into balance.
If you haven't played beta at all then i could see how you could be confused by some options Blizzard is giving you, not to mention from what i gather bliz revamped DK the most.
I don't really like DK's =/
Now it's a dead horse >.>
I don't really like DH's =/
I'm really liking the way the trees are shaping up for Cataclysm much more than how they are now. At first glance it seems like they're taking away any choices the players have, but really, the players did that themselves anyway. To an extent Blizzard is taking the cookie cutter aspect of talent tress, saying "Okay, we know players will take all of these talents, so let's run with that." But at the same time, they've peppered in talents that add more than just pure DPS/Tanking/Healing.
Taking a look at the retribution tree, even just on the tier 2 talents, to get to tier 3 you have to choose between Pursuit of Justice and Guardian's Favor. While that seems like a no brainer, you have to account for just how often that movement speed is going to A) Save your life or B) Decrease your travel time enough to increase your DPS time. When you're at 24 points and need 25 to get to the next tier, you have several more choices to make. Long Arm of the Law will let you get into combat faster if you're 15 yards or more away when you use Judgement. Then you've still got Eye for an Eye, and Guardian's Favor in the lower tiers, as well as Rebuke, and Repentance. At 28 points, you've got another 2 points to place essentially where you like, adding in Acts of Sacrifice to the list before you can get your 31 pointer.
On top of that, tier 1 Holy and Protection both offer some prime talents for Retribution. So while you'll see most everyone running around as 7/3/31, often their subspec trees will be identical, but how they get to their 31 pointers will be the difference. Most every tree for all classes should be like that, though not all of them are there quite yet.
so yeah i just ran normal Vortex Pinnacle for my first time last night, holy shit. I am loving the difficulty of these new dungeons. It took a few tries before i finally got a group who knew what they were doing though. One time i go in and the shaman immediately starts earthquaking the first mob pack, that run didn't last long. Hardest part of cataclysm is gonna be getting people to actually use CCs. Our VP run took maybe an hour to 1:20 to run. loving cata so far.
