I must admit when I first got to Heroics, it was tough. Keep in mind I am a Cata baby... However, with enough persistance, shit is easy now. It kinda saddens me if they plan to gimp them.

This is from a healer's prospective.

I seriously don't understand all the crying. I had plenty of bad group, but not once did I get one that was unable to complete an instance. Grim batol and stonecore are probably the least friendly, but you can usually beat most boss with 2-3 wipes which isnt that bad. The average group will wipe maybe once per instance depending of the mechanics and complete it in less than 1 hour easily.

People just need to chill, and explain everything everytime (instead of picking fight). It takes 5 minutes worth of your time, but it pays off.

You're lucky then. I've had so many wipe and then fall apart that I don't even queue anymore. 40 minutes DPS queue to wipe at the first boss is just ridiculous, and it happened almost every time I queued up so I gave up on PUGging.

Fall apart? Just stick around a bit longer, it weeds out the baddies.

I don't know how "lucky" I am, but I did over 100 heroic dungeons, and at least half of them were with pug. I wasted over 2 hours a few times, and occasionally, I completed the dungeon with a differents team, but it's not the norm. I can count these run on one hand.

By fall apart, I mean we wipe (usually once, though sometimes we try a second time), then everyone except me leaves. Can't queue back up if I'm the only person left. So yeah.

Wipe on first boss is common but I've never seen the whole party disband. I guess people tend to hang around a little more if I don't leave since I'm the tank.

But I don't know, I think babysitting the group is the way to go. Be polite, ask people if they need explanation, repeat key points before every fight (including trash). If someone is retarded, send them a nice whisper explaining the situation....etc. It makes a huge difference, and people will stick around longer if the group is nice. If something bad happens, take the blame or just laugh it off before someone complain. It will shut them up.

A nice whisper usually works better with silent player, they can't ignore it. More than half of them are simply players who are not paying attention, and yelling at them won't improve the situation.

Seriously, yelling is rarely the best options avaible imo. People won't be better on the next attempt after getting yelled at, and there is always a chance they decided to wipe you/ninja loot if they stay around. The only time yelling has any benefit is when the whole party support you and want to see that player leave, but it's not quite common.

This is not to say I'm not picking fight when someone piss me off (especially prick who criticize other members while not being perfect themselves), but if you're looking for a succesful run, it's not the way to go imo.

I get kicked from heroics all the time when I admit I've never been to an instance. Still have not done SFK, Stonecore or Blackrock Caverns since I get kicked at the start of the instance every single time. Honesty is not the best policy when it comes to heroics.

I usually am not the person to yell at or even try to help people out. I still feel like a total noob at this game sometimes. Unless it's an instance I know extremely well (which is usually stuff like RFC, lawl) I generally try to keep my mouth shut and follow, if I need an explanation for something I ask for it but I'm not the one who's going to provide explanations for stuff.

This is actually just Aksannyi's Law. It's kind of like Murphy's Law, but it applies only in MMOs. Basically, it states that A. Any and all instances where the Random Number Generator can possibly fuck you over, it will, and B. Any and all instances in which total group failure is an option, it will happen. (I mean, this is the person who went 0/12 on Kitty pants, then quit and got a message via MSN from the person holding the next popset I was going to be hopefully getting pants off of and he gets it for his mule, 1/1. Tell me that's not shitty luck.) That's typical for me. So yeah, not doing any more PUGs, huge waste of my time at this point. I'll probably get brave again and try in a few weeks, one will fall apart as usual, and it'll further affirm for me that my law is fucking me once again. XD

Are you in pvp gears or something? Is your dps subpar after a few pull?

I have yet to see one kick vote because of this. I find it hard to believe it happens all the time for no reason other than "first timer".

Seen people say they're new. Never seen a vote kick occur until they've sucked at least twice at something.

I am in full PvE gear and farmed normals and ground rep until I had 333+ in every slot, except my 2nd trinket. All my gear is gemmed and enchanted correctly, albeit sometimes with a lower end version of the correct enchant (lower end shoulder and leg enchants for instance). I've been a healer since BC, during which I cleared all raid content on my holy priest, but burnt out on raiding after BC. This is my first time really playing a DPS class other than leveling. My dps seems low on trash compared to other classes (playing Shadow Priest) but I do just fine on boss fights. I've never been kicked once the group got going and nobody has ever complained that my dps was shitty, although I'm sure it will happen sometime.

When I join an instance, if it's one I've never done, I will generally say "hey, I've never been here before so if there's anything I need to know just give me a heads up." Then someone will get upset, almost always a dps, and whine until a kick vote is started either for me or the person whining. I have 10+ kicks from Stonecore, SFK and Blackrock Caverns combined without ever pulling a mob. None of the other groups in the other instances kicked me for being a first timer except for the first time I got H Grim Batol.

I bought the expansion the same time as everyone else, except that I was moving at the time and really didn't have time to play for about a month and a half. So by the time I leveled up, farmed normals and got ready for heroics, the learning phase for most regular-hardcore players had long passed. And many casual players haven't hit heroics yet, so I came into heroics at a pretty inopportune time. Not that it's really all that big of a deal. WoW is populated by elitist assholes, most of whom are far more terrible than I am, and it's been that way since WOTLK hit. All I can do is laugh and enjoy the game. And I'll eventually get a group for each of those instances that isn't populated by 14 year olds foaming at the mouth. C'est la vie.

I made the mistake of admitting it was my first time doing heroic HoO once, I'd done it on normal and all other heroics, though. This was in a full random pug.

2 people stood in fire and died on first boss. I was above all 3 in dps anyway (as tank).

I got votekicked when we wiped.

I agree with Kaylia about the gentleness and kind thing. If others read the complaint thread yeterday, they may have seen me been a prick temporarily ONCE by removing a whining decently geared healer, but that's besides the point.

As I tank all my heroics, and I know heroics well enough now, I take command of the group and try to instill a bit of fun into it. I have a small list of notes in a notepad file on bosses if anyone asks which I paste into the chat box, and otherwise use a bit of positive reinforcement to slog us through. While I am aware my patience runs a collosal amount of times longer than everyone else's, I always see it as giving people a chance if they actually listen and ask questions. Like they say: He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

The few times I had to disband the group was not out of rage but lack of dps. i.e. Grim Batol heroic, I found that people struggled with this dungeon the most. Despite extreme patience and explaination, there was no way to beat the boss down without the healer running out of mana due to low dps (I topped it at 6-8k as tank, and 4-5k from the 3 dps). After wiping a few times and explaining the situation is a civislised manner that we cannot win and it's best we completely requeue, only 1 dps went "fuck you" and left. The other 3 just thanked everyone and understood the situation, and promptly left.

I go for the gentle but yet firm approach. If I see a healer that never runs low on mana or a dps that is clearly topping everyone else, I send them a friendly whisper and apologise for being slightly patrionising or spoon feeding the others, but just to explain to them I am trying to make this as smooth as possible and ask for their patience, since they clearly know what they're doing (most of the time).
eh I just treat people like shit if they stay silent and fuck up, be polite if they ask, and ofc suck it up if I'm on a DPS toon
Have to agree that's my mode of operating, although if I'm rarely queuing as DPS (I do it if I don't feel like thinking/leading after work), I do take command of the group if the tank leaves and then kick into my gentle + firm approach.

If you're going to heroic dungeon please be decent enough to have at least ran the normal version first. DM and SFK aside if it's your first time and you havent even run the normal version, you gonna get the boot.
