It is most often conceptual and rarely really has an empirical basis for the claims.

this is probably the best active thread in spam atm
I wouldn't say best, but definitely one of the more educational ones.
By the way, what i most want you to take out of that link is that the system of homosexuality in the US is not the most common one, and even further, it's the most unusual one. Everything else is secondary, except the worm rape.
When I wrote my answer to my goddamn Kuya question thread I didn't have to look at no goddamn papers.
You're intimidated by my intellectual wang of glory, I can tell.
Either that or worm rape.
Kohan, why don't you and me experiment on my brain and see if we can find why i love you so much?
i'm not sure i'll be able to get this together anytime soon, just keep reminding me, i will be done finals on thurs.
Ok, i will keep reminding you that atreides needs to know where he came from.
SHIRO WHERE IS THE THESIS
URGH lol
give me a couple of days, i just finished school, i don't want to do more work for stuff that isn't school right now
plus i'm finding some contradictory shit and i'm not sure about the impact factors of the journals i'm looking at. there isn't a lot of new research in the field because presumably there's no money and it attracts so much flak. linkage studies are very interesting, i'm not even sure whether birth order even matters or not, i've found larger studies that contradict the original finding but like i said, i'd need to compare impact factors of the studies and shit. it's a lot of work for your love
needless to say, it wouldn't be really surprising if exclusive homosexuality may be correlated with alleles of certain genes and that certain nondominant characteristics may be caused by the same allele that affects neurological development (presumably the gene is a transcription factor or regulatory protein)
similarly, i found some very interesting articles about treatment with certain antibodies to male proteins affecting mounting behaviour of mice (mice treated were fetal if i recall) but the papers were old, and i forgot to bookmark them so i'd have to look them up again and i'm not having much luck
the problem is, that as interesting as the research is, there really isn't that much, and without more it's difficult to say anything besides that certain things maybe sort of affect human sexuality
Kuya just accept that everything you do is a choice that you are culpable for in the afterlife, you filthy sinner.
It's interesting that you mention genetics because it was my understanding that genetic explanations of sexuality were one of the weakest areas and birth order effects were the most promising.
like i said, it's a fucking mess and it's difficult to sort through
there's all sorts of bullshit about a lot of the researchers involved, it just makes me throw my hands up in the air
well, i've seen the data for the linkage studies in one class, and they looked experimentally sound
it was dean hamer's work iirc
Hmm, i have two articles that summarize and analize biological research on sexuality. I'll have to reread them now.
But yea, there is so few research about it that it's hard to make conclusive statements. Unfortunately, when people see these studies popping up every now and then in the media it creates this appearance that we're progressively getting closer and closer to finding the root cause of it, when in reality what is happening is that the research contradicting the findings does not appear in media, and the media itself gives this very disingenuous interpretations.
the media makes everybody go fucking crazy about the gay gene
and that people are trying to cure gays
and that gays are a disease
it must be infuriating to work in this field
i'll poke around, but i might just have to concede and say inconclusive even though biological factors having some sort of affect makes perfect sense
Do the conclusions tell us if it's ok to make fun of fags?
Only some of them.
