I'd wait a week or so before judging it. All the reviews out now seem vastly different for some reason.

    ----

For the pics above: Crysis shouldn't have much difference since its only 2 threads and doesn't really care about clock speed... no idea whats going on there. CS4 loves cores be it virtual or physical so can't really expect something without HT to win in that department. WinRAR never was great with AMD, I think it has to do with L2 & L3 cache.

There's a few reasons (hyperthreading being one of the more up-front ones), but the main reason is the overall design of the processor. Intel's CPUs uses slightly more L3 cache (tho this gap has gotten a lot smaller recently). Also the communication path between the CPU and system memory (QPI for Intel, HyperTransport for AMD) is slighty higher on Intel's CPUs. And of course there's just design differences and additional instructions built into the core itself.

The Tom's link basically shows what I expected. In non multi-threading optimized applications (pretty much all games) the 4 core Intels did better, in things that are multithreaded well the 6c did better.

The intels are somewhat better per clock and they all have turbo capability to widen the gap.

I see some price drops incoming on the Phenom II x4 and 790FX chipset motherboards. Newegg has a few of the new 890FX chipset motherboards listed: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...90fx&x=10&y=27
