    XBox 360 and NAT Help

    Okay, so I'm just a wee bit embarrassed to be posting for help here since I went to school for computers (and networking was one of my courses)... but I'm really stumped here.

    So about my ISP: I've been using Comcast and they've just been absolutely horrid for the past 2 years or so and I've been on and off with them to come and fix the internet. I was getting download speeds of like 2MBPS and uploads of 1 MBPS. I finally caved in and called Comcast and they rushed out here to try to fix it to avoid losing a potential customer. They replaced the cable modem saying they couldn't find anything wrong with my internet speed or connection. I called BS but I couldn't argue with the guy . . .

    The router I've been using is a Belkin Wireless N Router. Model is I believe a F5D8236-4. Had absolutely no problems with XBox 360 and this router when I was back at college, but now that I'm out and back home, I've been having trouble joining people's games.

    At first I thought it was port forwarding so I forwarded 3704 for both UDP and TCP and I'm still having that problem. Also tried killing Firewall to see if that would help but to no avail. Random disconnects on the XBox abound still, can't join certain friends games (although all my other buddies can join theirs, it just seems that none of them can join mine or I can't join theres). I thought there was a possibility it was them but when I was unable to join every game under both Ranked Match, Quick Match, and Player Match for a good solid 5~10 minutes, I knew for sure it was me.

    Fired up Modern Warfare 2 and sure enough "NAT Type: Strict" is there in full effect. So, I can probably deal with the random disconnects cause that sounds like Comcast's typical bullshit. But I'm kinda baffled why it's still set to "Strict" . . . my networking is rusty so hopefully one of you guys can give me a hand so I can get it set up later for Street Fighter.

    Thanks...

    Try:

    1) turn off uPnP

    2) forward all these ports to the xbox:

    * TCP 80
    * UDP 88
    * UDP 3074
    * TCP 3074
    * UDP 53
    * TCP 53

    3) give xbox a static IP if you have to

    So just tried off all that. Still get the whole NAT: Strict thing... confused as Hell.

    What I do.. And this is sort of cheating, but it's worked for me every time.

    Go on your 360, note down the connection details, which should be IP, Gateway, and some other thing. Most likely 192.168.1.x, 255.255.0.0, and 192.168.1.1

    Set the connection type to manual, and copy what the details were as on automatic, but set the Xbox's IP to something like 192.168.1.17.

    Go onto your router's setup, and find DMZ. You can then enter the last digits of your 360's IP in there. Save, turn the 360 off, restart the router. May take a few tries, but your NAT should be open.

    Also, I know that my Belkin router is 192.168.2.1, instead of 1.1, so substitute however needed.

    I've tried doing this several times in the past and it didn't work.

    Surprisingly today... it works. Apparently I can connect to everyone fine except people with D-Link routers it would appear. I'm going to a venture a guess that's them and not me though.

    Thanks.
