sounds like someone doesn't know the difference between a bum and someone who can't find employment
as said before UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE =/= WELFARE
Being on unemployment makes someone lazy?
News to me
*edit*
Also, to the person believing unemployment = welfare...... You do realize like others have said, employers pay for majority of the money and other stuff comes from tax payers, the same tax that the newly unemployed paid into as well.
Benevolentone is probably Lief, come back from the dead. >_>
Ya'll got Liefed!
That's the thing though, cause I'm hoping to have this offer by tomorrow, Thursday at the latest. So that'll be ~ 1 week, and I've yet to get my paper work which I applied for online on Monday. I guess I can give a call to the claims service and ask em, because that little bit of help should be able to pay some of the months bills.
Anyways, thanks for the replies, I think I'll be alright with the unemployment, now I just gotta worry about the testing (hope it's not hair cause it's a cGMP/cGLP position).
For everyone talking about people too lazy to get a job after they are fired, think about someone earning 900 bucks byweekly, after taxes. They get fired and cant find work in whatever field they work in, or a comparative salary, they can only find 10 per hr jobs, taking home lets say 500-600 after taxes. Tell me why I would want to do that when I would be getting the max unemployment rate taking home around 800, while staying home playing PS3. 800 after taxes mind you, if you opt for not paying 10% federal taxes, you could have close to 900... which is the salary your used to having, for paying bills and shit. Mean while your at home not wasting gas or buying extra food for making lunches or if you dont like making lunches, not spending extra 10+ dollars on fast food. so that unemployment runs you farther than that 10 dollar an hour job.
Also lol you can get a part time job making less than 40% of your unemployment rate and still collect full benefits. Come the fuck on, who wants to work 40+ hours in some shitty job, when you can stay at home till you find a good job.
To the OP You have a waiting week before you can actually get benefits so if this is your first week without work, its technically your waiting week.
Not sure exactly what PA law is, but there is a small waiting period possibly. Although you should claim for it as soon as you are able to. Depending on where you are applying too, the application and hiring process can last a while.
I wouldn't worry about that. Not sure why an employer would spend the money on a hair test for potential applicants, although depending on the size and assets of the company, I am sure it is possible. Took me only a week of non-smoking to pass a piss test though.
I do have some HR and hiring experience, and if the unemployment period was very small when looking at someones background check, I would certainly ask them about it. Yet that would indicate to me at least that this individual was actively seeking new employment, and would probably be more motivated than others that had a huge gap in between jobs.
This just in: Unemployment is not a form a welfare.
<3 America
Someone bitching about a system they don't understand? I'm calling it, your a teabagger right?
Either way, unemployment insurance is totally not welfare. You could never work a day in your life, pop kids out like the human race was extinct and we needed to repopulate, and still collect welfare (cash and foodstamps) and if you wanted to you could even apply for section 8 (house paid for by govamint).
You cant get unemployment without having worked, and it ends after a time, So you have to go back to work. You also pay, very small amount but you still pay for it, while you are working plus you pay for FICA and SS when you are working so you are paying for other people to be on welfare.
Main Entry: 1wel·fare
Pronunciation: \ˈwel-ˌfer\
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from the phrase wel faren to fare well
Date: 14th century
1 : the state of doing well especially in respect to good fortune, happiness, well-being, or prosperity <must look out for your own welfare>
2 a : aid in the form of money or necessities for those in need b : an agency or program through which such aid is distributed
Unemployment is welfare, period. You don't know what you're talking about if you say it's not, plain and simple.
What we're seeing is hilarious because even in a liberal haven people are afraid of admitting that welfare isn't just paying for black chicks to have 8 kids and never work. Thank you Rush Limbaugh.
Welfare is not the same as Unemployment.
Unemployment you have to be actively seeking a job, and get paid a % of your income based on state law. It also lasts for a limited period, typically a few months to under a year if I remember correctly.
Welfare is based off of income, not losing your job (through no fault of your own). Low income families are more associated with welfare, while even HCEs can get Unemployment (limitations apply).
Yes I know you are probably arguing that Unemployment is just a type of Welfare (and some aspects are similar), but I think that is a gross over-generalization. They are very different in my and the government's eyes.
Except for that fact that you paid for your own unemployment as well right? (if unemployed)
Cause, people who are on welfare pitch in towards paying their own welfare every once in awhile?
*Edit*
Not to mention, you do realize people on unemployment owe back taxes when its time to file, due to unemployment right? So, while i'm on unemployment for 6 months, whatever taxes I would have paid while working pretty much get back in circulation when tax filing comes around.
this just in: car/health/life INSURANCE are all forms of welfare.
to be clearer: unemployment INSURANCE is a state mandated INSURANCE that all workers must pay into.
<3 people that don't know the difference between welfare and insurance.
A contract (policy) in which an individual or entity receives financial protection, or reimbursement, against losses from an insurance company, which pools client's risks to make payments more affordable, in exchange for a premium.
The entire system fits under the umbrella of welfare. People have simply developed the term into a negative connotation for non-contribution "leeching."
That's not all welfare is, and it's fucking terrible that that's how even the side that's more reasonable towards it is looking at it now.
Unemployment is not welfare, granted it can be abused to become such. The company you work for pays a certain percentage on the first x-thousand dollars you earn in a year. For instance, in Virginia the base rate is .58% on the first $8,000 you earn, in DC it's some rate (much higher like 2.7%, depending on the company) on the first $9,000 you earn. For Federal, the company pays .8% on the first $7,000 you earn. Needless to say, the company you work for pays your future unemployment compensation.
When you file a claim, that claim is sent to where you were laid off and they can either dispute or accept it. Each year they receive a letter explaining their rates, showing how much unemployment was claimed against them, etc... Your collecting unemployment drives up their rate (sometimes astronomically), and they end up paying for it in the end.
Unemployment's primary purpose is to protect the employee in cases of unjust termination, sudden layoffs due to corrupt business practice, etc... The system is heavily abused, and I've dealt with far too much of it. My company (an accounting firm) hires tax preparers during the regular tax season, strictly for seasonal work. We had one guy that came in and worked the tax season, but was obviously upset we didn't offer him a full-time position. He filed for unemployment which led to us disputing it, but the government still gave him unemployment. I also know someone that lives in the Philly suburbs that cleans pools in the spring/summer, and then collects unemployment for the autumn/winter. I tried to turn him in, but the unemployment office there doesn't seem to care.
