Just a simple question really; Should I use the adobe updater when I didn't legally purchase it or should I just leave it be? And would this rule apply to other programs as well?

Never use the updater, on anything pirated unless deemed safe.
I am 99% certain Adobe Updater searches for updates, tells you what said updates and asks to confirm the download. Shouldn't hurt to run it. I'm pretty sure there isn't any updates for CS4 anyway, I've had it since launch and it's never tried to update once.
Yeah, ive never had any problem with my adobe updater, and ive the whole suite.
of CS3*
I have CS3 suite, too, and let it update as normal. The updates have never caused any issues. Not sure about CS4, though.
What I want though, is CS5 Suite!
CS5 suite is pretty wicked. 2011 is a good year for new version releases in general.
i guess it depends on how it was cracked... I run CS4, god help me if I remember whether or not I update the shit though.
Damn, I read this thinking that CS5 final was out. It isn't out yet is it?
No
That content aware feature in CS5 is freakin amazing. Do wantttttt
If you did a proper install of CS4 and your machine/adobe has accepted it as legit, you can run all the updates you want. I've done it, and mine's been autoupdating whenever it can for at least a year now, on 4 machines.
updater doesn't check how legit your copy is.
Updater can update to versions that block un-legit copies. Also, at least on the Mac version, the updater can blacklist known bad product keys, forcing you to search out a new crack/key or downgrade again back to the standard version.
The pre-release is out. But its not the final retail.

my schools hub has a cs5 master collection, is final just completely unreleased?
Does prerelease have the content-aware?
Content aware is not perfect, but holy fucking shit is it awesome. Literally less than 3 minutes. Before/After:

You can see some screw ups on the line of the beach. Can use some touch up, but god damn, for 2 minutes of work, it couldn't be any more awesome.
