I think we are confused as to what I am lying about. I think what I call lying most call exaggerating. My university experience is legit, i have had all the jobs I have posted. Just taken what I have done and fluffed it the way numbers fluffs in pornos.

Don't say anything you didn't actually do, is the point here. Don't credit yourself with awards you didn't get, or a salary you didn't have.

If you can loosely connect it or it's something that you DID do that isn't necessarily significant in the context of the individual job, but you can make it sound like it has a lot of pomp and circumstance, then you're fine.

You can make something sound a lot more important than anyone who actually did/does that job would ever think it is. But if you didn't actually do it, don't say it.

Example: I work on an asset management system that receives data from a lot of different places across the country. My job is nothing special, I don't actually have control over the other data sources, I essentially just monitor and make sure their data continues coming in and pester them to check their own system health when it doesn't. But on my resume:

Coordinate and maintain nationwide asset management and tracking system utilized for decision making, acquisitions, inventory and security management, and software distribution

I have not lied here, all these things are true; but it sounds a lot grander than it actually comes out to be when you actually look at the work I do. Usually embellishment comes from making the scope of your work seem bigger than it really is, which is fine as long as you actually did it.
