    Isn't Carbon Dating like....not accurate?

"So, is carbon dating accurate? It is for specimens which only date back a few thousand years. Anything beyond that is problematic and highly doubtful. "

Creationist dogma says that any evidence that contradicts the bible is automatically unreliable, so they'll cherry pick results that favor their desired conclusion and exclude all the others.

I thought it had more to do with it ACUTALLY being unrealiable. Getting radically different results from same specimens, having to assume an amount of carbon present at the time, etc, etc.

Carbon dating is most useful between 1000-30,000 years old, but it can be used between 500 and 50,000 years old, if I'm not mistaken

Are you trying to be accurate for the sake of being accurate or are you trying to give credence to some theist cause by pointing out that scientific techniques are not 100% accurate?

Guess which one of these stances is fallacious and annoying.

The quote is arbitrary, I just thought it might present the question better than I did.

I'm just curious as to how accurate it is, for the sake of science. It seems to be the standard for dating these days, but I've heard that it's unreliable. I'm just trying to get the consensus on how it's used and how much stock is put into the the results by scientists these days, and if there are other methods of dating that are going on.

It's more accurate than finding some old wood and calling it Noah's Ark, how is that?

Pretty much this. Science never claims perfection, and no matter how inconclusive it might be at times, it's still worlds better than revealed knowledge.

Is it okay to shed a manly tear for this? Because I did not know that. That was my favorite movie when I was in 1st grade

If Noah's Ark were real it would be like 4000 years old? Seems well within carbon dating accuracy.
