I dunno, if someone was willing to spend 25 bucks to run away with a 250k gem, that is pretty silly. 2-3 more bucks could buy you 1M and therefore a full pop set. If it was forgotten, it was forgotten. If it wasn't, well, someone else can decide if a gem is really that much of a problem. I've seen people around here accused of far worse for far more and not had people stomp all over them....

But I guess when you just plain don't like the guy, either because he is whiny or relatively new to the game, well that make him fair game. But keep in mind, he has been playing for just over a year, some of us have been playing since NA release. Too many people forget that the stuff some people consider trivial can be hard to obtain for new(er) players. Why? No one wants to do it any more. Don't forget that.

You're forgetting that this is the same kid who made a post in Random Question asking is ninja-lotting Haidate would ruin his reputation. If this had happened a month ago I'd have thought "oh, accidents happen"; but recently this kid has been posting on the forums acting as if FFXI owes him Haidate simply by virtue of it existing, and whereas he once came across as simply psyched to be playing the game and new, he now seems arrogant and like quite an asshole. It's not so much what he stole, more the fact that he did it, and anyone who chalks this up to an accident has far more faith in humanity than I.

He had mentioned completing the Byakko set last night so I know for a fact that he didn't forget about the Gem.

Pretty much exactly this. If it was anyone else, could give them benefit of the doubt - but he seems very untrustworthy. What happens after he gets his Haidate if he sets his sights on another item? Would he consider ninjalotting it? Valid warning thread as far as I'm concerned.

The saddest thing is that I am guilty of wanting certain ingame items too much (not to the extent where I'd server transfer or ninja lot, but still ...) and by the time you actually get them, you don't really have a sense of accomplishment. It's more just a sense of "thank god that's all over" - basically, the moment you start lusting over gear too much is just a downward spiral for your enjoyment of the game.
