I'm glad that i've taken my usual route and waited for the 2nd batch of hardware to come out. I hope this isn't a sign of HTC phones to come. They've always built awesome products.

Guy who did the test has invisible shields. Other people who had the issue had it resolved after removing the invisible shield.

Shields always cause some issues.

I fried my touchscreen on my palm pre due to ghost armor covering the phone. Sprint techs say it happens alot on touch screen phones, because the phones are not designed for them.

Didn't put any type of shield on my HTC Hero (Was a replacement for the pre), and have not had any issues at all.

i haven't rooted before so bare with me:

first, it says all data is wiped when you root. i'm guessing that includes contact/phone info too. any programs i should use to backup/restore that stuff or should i just sync through my gmail account?

second: how do i enter in all the commands that toast is talking about? the guy who wrote those posts kinda just says "do" this and assumes everyone knows what they're doing.

also, is his method different from the unrevoked.com apk easy install? cause if not then i'll just go through that.

For backing up, I do 2 things......

I sync everything to my google account, and I use HTC Sync on my PC. It works nicely as a secondary backup.

You need to have the Android SDK installed on your computer, and you run all those commands thru the command line function on your computer.

This basically explains it in regards to removing apps from your Evo, and reading should give you enough understanding of how to use adb in general.

And this is a full root, which gives you access to everything on the phone. It'll take awhile (so at the current pace of development for this phone, 1 or 2 days?) for this to become fully useful. Unrevoked is basically just giving you superuser permissions on your phone, which basically extends to being able to use the tether app and a few other random programs.

As for backing up your shit, A) Sync all your contacts and whatnot with your google account, B) Titanium Backup, I think this will work with the unrevoked root. I mentioned it last page but Titanium Backup will basically back up every/setting on your phone, so after a complete wipe, you just tell it to restore everything, reboot your phone, and basically everything is back. Usually just involves a minute or two of adjusting Settings and your phone is exactly as it was before but with a nice shiny new ROM running.

And yadda yadda, no issues with my phone. Screen staying in place, no issues with the touchscreen, battery lasting longer then 10 minutes. People are trying really really hard to find problems with this phone, and I think Engadget is getting paid off by Apple to make sure and report anything that comes up. I think all of the reports I've seen them make include a sidenote where they can't replicate the fault or that they say their phone doesn't have this issue. They're just apparently spreading any hearsay on the phone to get people to plop down money on their iPhone 4 preorders tomorrow.

The only "problem" with the phone that is a legit widespread complaint is the 30 FPS limit imposed on the phone, which has been aknowledged by Google and Sprint as an issue on HTC's end, and that they are both pressuring HTC (and encouraging users to email them about the issue) to fix it since it is putting a negative light on what is currently both brands flagship phone.

Might as well save themselves some time and wrap it all together with a android 2.2 release with sense and uncapped fps. That would be so tits.

Fuck that shit, it'll take months before HTC gets 2.2 out the door, and even then I'm already done with OTA updates. The ROMs available already are a vast improvement over the vanilla experience. Better battery life, faster system, etc. As soon as the cameras and 4G code are cracked (or HTC stops being bitches and releases their code), undervolting/overclocking and Froyo will be good to go for the system, and won't have to deal with Sprint/HTC bloatware. My phone is already stripped of all of that anyways outside of Sprint TV, since that is actually a pretty damn useful app for Sportscenter on the go.

it's not in the instructions in that site, but i'm assuming you need to install/update all the packages from android SDK before you use it to do the rooting?


also, toast says: "And again because i cant stress it enough... DO NOT accept a OTA update from Sprint or use a RUU, or u risk lossing root forever, and ever"

he just means you'll have to re-root again, right? there's like 100+ pages in his thread and i'm not sure i can find a timely answer lol

im going to buyt his phone next week, bestbuy employees couldn't buy it until the 20th >.<. it is going to be my first smart phone and i am looking forward to having my evo. any recomendations on what i should download on this badboy and sorry for sounding dumb but what is all this root buisness. i have a razr for gods sakes so be gentle on me lol.

Yes-ish, but it's possible that installing an OTA update could block further attempts to root, either permanently or having to wait for the mod community to come out with a new version. If you've ever owned a PSP you'd understand this, since if you had a PSP updated past a certain firmware you'd be fucked and could never installed a hacked one.

Really though the only issue present on the phone that's not hardware based is the FPS limit on the phone I've mentioned multiple times before, everything else could be considered a "problem" like battery life or wanting better performance has already been improved upon by the community. So basically once you throw any of the good ROMs out there on your phone, you have no reason to even want an OTA update.

Rooting is basically hacking your phone to install custom versions of the OS, do more shit with your phone, etc. And look @ the previous page for some good app suggestions made by myself or others.

This is my first smartphone as well but you just need to dig around to get a feel for it.

One other question. in terms of the lite version of snesoid and the others what is the benefit of buying the full version compared to lite? will i not be able to save otherwise? again sorry if these are dumb questions.
