The batterytime app? doesnt seem to. you can monitor battery use if you go to phone settings / battery and see what apps take up stuff.

Or system panel to see whats eating CPU.

In the week or so ive had phone on w/o reboot, its used 2 minutes of cpu time, where my Mint widget (shows current financial state etc) has used 6 mins.
So i guess it is eating some cpu

Screen. It's no comparison. The quality difference is dramatic. Make fun of the silly "retina" marketing ploy all you want, but the screen size difference doesn't come near to justifying the quality difference. The pixel density alone pulls it away.

Physical size. WTF hueg vs compact. I'll take my compact.

Speed, I didn't say they weren't comparable. I said they were very much comparable.

Misleading fact preying on ignorance that megapixels actually matter. You mean like "Retina Display"? Yes its essentially the same thing. But you need to see the whole picture in this video. No one is arguing semantics about MP. Hes stating a fact to someone that is unknowing. Someone who isn't ignorant would take that piece of advice and take it into consideration but instead they say "I don't care."

    Screen:
Yes there is a comparison, I stated a very valid comparison in my previous post.
At the root of it all its just an IPS panel vs LCD panel. Lemme educate you on Pixel Density... In order for you to take advantage of the 300+ PPI on the iPhone you need to either zoom in to absurd levels; to the points where you find yourself asking whether or not people read characters this big. Or you need to hold the phone an inch from your eye but seeing as how your eye wont be able to focus on anything it goes to waste. At optimal viewing distances which is 12-24 inches away... the difference between the two (in terms of PPI) is unnoticeable. Right now PPI over 230-250 is purely just for epeen. Most of the iPhone's display unf comes from its very high resolution. Lemme guess what your phone before this was.... An iPhone 3G or 3GS. Coming from that - that is a fucking huge difference.

To fully take advantage of a Retina Display you will need a microscope.. That sounds like an excuse for having a small pecker. "My shit looks fuckin sweet when zoomed in." Doesnt make it better. lol

    Physical Size:
Ok now you're just trolling. I agree with you that I don't like the size on the EVO 4G. But the two can be compared... Not everyone has small hands. Some people like a big phone. This is personal preference and is up to the consumer.

I think after having the iphone for a few days I can make a comparison to both phones based on my coverage/situation

1.Living in the Miami/Ft.Lauderdale area and having AT&T seems to be a great thing, almost everyone I know has it, and theres no 4G coverage here. I was already on a family plan (paid for) and the price difference to me was negligible. To break my contract, switch to sprint, buy the phone, and pay more/same a month on average was kind of meh.

    2. My uncle has the Evo, had a chance to play around with it, love it, but I just didn't like the feel for for the phone, not to say the iphone is any better in size. Evo felt awkward in my hands and pockets. I know I wouldn't use both phones to their "potential" of watching TV and what not, but who cares? I'm always near a TV, at home, at work, or at school. And the smaller screen shits are annoying (thus why I don't watch streams on just my laptop, have to hook it up to a TV)

    3. Not a big fan of the iOS4, but for the time being, I can work with it. When I find out on how to load 2.2 or when 2.3 comes out, I'll jump ship to that.

    4. Apps are nice, I have the basic stuff, and I don't use my phone to play games (yet). So I can go either way on this, but having a GPS-esque device now really helps out a lot.

    5. Camera: Meh. Evo looks nicer. But I can live with the iphones camera. I personally never owned a camera, so being able to finally upload pictures to my facebook and twitter is a nice touch. I'm not to anal about the resolution of the photos either.

    6. Battery is a big thing, and I've noticed the Evo's is kind of shitty. Being able to almost spend the entire day texting, running around with ESPN trackers while watching a few vids on youtube on a single charge is a nice thing.

    7. Speed...they're both fast? I mean, I can sort of tell the difference, but its not a make or break situation. When I do jailbreak my phone, it wouldn't matter anymore.

I'm happy I upgraded to an iphone, because I never had a smart phone or anything remotely close to it before (I had a palm treo 2.5 years ago with sprint). I sort of wished we stayed with Sprint so I would of gotten the Evo on a renewal, but at the same time, having AT&T made it cheaper for my family to have one condensed bill in comparison to 3 or 4 bills to pay.

'Retina' display looks the same as every other display except its not 16:9, tbh. The only I don't like about the evo really is the material it's made of. It's serviceable, but after feeling the metallic glass of an iPhone it's hard to use anything else.

You realize the retina display isn't just the pixel density? I said that pixel density alone pulls it away, and it does. Stick the two phones side by side. The screen on the iphone is absurd. The contrast ratio is absurd. There's no space between the touchscreen and the LCD, the colors and icons literally pop off the screen. And no, I'm not some mac fanboy who comes in to whiteknight everything apple. I fucking hate all things apple PCs. There's a thread in general where I rip on apple computers.

Yes I'm aware of that. I'm also aware of all the other points you've mentioned... and these are all things that can and should be compared. That was my whole point. lol

As I stated before. Most of the unf of that screen comes from a high resolution packed into a small screen.

I was "how much better could the screen really be?!"

And then last night I finally got to hold and check out an iPhone4. In a word: WOW

This in my opinion is the best comparison I've seen of the two. Theres a few points he makes that are a little wrong (notably the cost of 32GB microSD cards and other things). No bias from what I saw and an overall very well done review:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=<obje...mbed></object>

Haha he forgot to turn off the live wallpaper for those tests. On a note about those test... Let's keep in mind that the EVO 4G is still running Eclair with ghetto Flash. I think we all know how disgustingly fast Froyo is and just how much better the Flash experience is. What I want to see is some real gaming benchmarks.

Just to give you an idea. This is my Nexus One on Cyanogen 5.0.8 (Eclair):

Theres also an iPhone 4 vs Droid Incredible video if you look at related vids.

I wonder if thats the case for just everything displayed on the phone, and yea i know the screen is closer...
The colors pop. Pleasantly, but almost unnaturally, super saturated and contrasty, the kind of processing I love in Nikons, taken to the extreme. That's the iPhone 4's secret sauce. Color and contrast. Apple's not going for accuracy, they're going for your eyeballs. Look at the fruit captured by the iPhone compared to the S90—the latter's photo is far more natural, but I want to make lemonade with the lemons in the iPhone's photo. When I touch up photos, manually, that's about what I do to them anyway.

I know but i'm a moralfag and would make me feel guilty doing it when I can afford it ;(

Although when they told me my employee discount doesn't apply to the hotspot and premium data charges it sure made me consider it...

Although after bitching they gave me some credits due to misinformation of 84$, so I guess i got 10 months of employee discounts applied.

Plus rooting it would void insurance. I use Unrevoked for some Root things which is temporary so gives me access to some rooty things.

Those results were kind of disappointing to me (my moto droid below), beautifulwidgets and launcherpro beta are must haves imo. For rooted users setcpu is also a must.

Wait... You have a Moto Droid that is second to last on that list. You jumped to right behind a Droid X stock and thats not impressive considering your specs? Thats a very big performance bump for a software upgrade. lol

Or were you talking about my score? I'm running Eclair. I'll post new results when they release CM6 test-0 Froyo.

Thats nice ROM btw, what are you running?

Aikar: I see what you mean. No warranty does suck but someone will figure out how to relock the bootloader is what I keep telling myself. Until then I'll just take extra good care of my purchase like I always do.

Seanr: While the angle in the first picture is a little off, you're right, the colors would not change that much. Look at the green on some of the lemons. The iPhone 4's camera seems to take very high contrast/bright/colorful shots which while looking nice are not at all natural.

Its Ultimate Droid Froyo eXtreme 1.5.0 with Chevy's 1.0ghz kernel (max being 1.25 but i dont like how hot it runs). I was talking about your benchmarks, missed the eclair comment. We'll see how it runs after Froyo.

http://www.blackdroidmod.com/ if your interested in looking at the ROM, its pretty solid and this guy makes some nice nice changes.

If you've never used LauncherPro Beta off the market you should check it out. I still think its one of the most amazing apps I've ever used.

Also remember that his clock speed is probably sitting on 800-1200 MHZ. On stock clock it's still above a nexus 2.1. The fact that you can safely OC that processor to 700 MHZ higher than it's stock is just amazing. Droid X + 2.2 is going to be disgusting.

My only beef with the evo, battery begs for mercy.

Its max is 1000 mhz atm, 1250 is available but I do not like it. SetCPU regulates it "On-Demand" 250 being the min, 1000 being the max.

Ah thats a really nice ROM and the LauncherPro is pretty cool but I prefer the customization available from the ADWLauncher in CM. Also that extra hidden drawer on the home screen is so fken clutch.

Unfortunately, I haven't messed with OC settings cause I feel my N1 gets plenty hot just doing regular stuff at stock settings.
