I was born and raised in oklahoma... escaped when i turned 20. This does not surprise me at all. I remember having a disagreement with one of my ex's fathers (This disagreement ended the relationship lol) about how a woman should be able to have an abortion if she was raped by her father, he didn't think so. We had this talk right in front of his daughter's (All 3 of them).

A big example here would be Down's Syndrome, which upon diagnosis has a high incidence of the parents opting to abort the fetus. Now if a doctor tells you your child to be is just fine to make sure he/she gets born, and he comes out anything but? Lawsuitproofed.

This right here. People have a tendency to mix religious and ethical values, and now doctors in oklahoma can do that now. Pro Lifer's are loving this law since birth defects are one of the biggest reasons a mother will choose to abort, and now that doctors are not obligated to, they feel this will cut down on abortions. Will it work? Probably not, but guess what, it gives them an out whether you like it or not.

It doesn't matter, if this law is forced into court even once, it's already a fucked up situation, and horribly so for the parents involved if it actually involves a child. Pretty shitty of OK to pass this bill, even to be shot down later.

There are enough docs out there who hold irrational beliefs, enough who are unethical, and so on. As a patient, you should expect the same treatment within reason from any doctor regardless of their personal theology. Must doctors advertise whether or not they're pro choice now? Part of being a doctor is giving a patient informed consent. To not inform a potential parent of a potential disease is essentially saying a doctor does not need to give informed consent due to their religious beliefs.

This bill is horrible for reasons beyond whether or not you're pro-choice.
