Ethernet port frozen?
So I'm having a weird problem. The ethernet port of my desktop computer is frozen, and stuck with the activity light lit orange. When I plug my ethernet cord in, it doesn't recognize a connection, and the light stays frozen on orange. Usually when I unplug it, the light goes off, but now it's staying stuck on orange. I have to cut power to the whole desktop for it to turn off, and then it turns back to solid orange as soon as I plug the computer back in. It's not recognizing any internet connection when my cord is plugged in, but when I plug the same cord into my laptop it has no problems with the internet.
Aside from this issue, the desktop seems to work perfectly. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
edit - No errors showing in device manager

Control Panel > Network Connections
Right Click the connection and Disable/Enable

The normal internet connection I use doesn't show up on the list of network connections at all. When I disable the one that does show up, nothing happens, it just stays there, enabled, with 0 data transfer.

Update your Chipset Drivers, and then Uninistall/Reinstall Network Drivers, see if it fixes anything. The connection should be there, you can try to Create a New Connection too.

The chipset drivers are updated, and reinstalling the network driver hasn't fixed the issue either
There was a thunderstorm and power outage last night, so should I assume the thunderstorm took out the port? And if I were to buy a pci card, are there any compatibility issues I should keep in mind, or specific ones that are really good/bad for the price? They seem relatively cheap.

TStrom shouldnt have caused the issue, but it could be possible, obviously if this started to did you try to create a new connection via the wizard thing? Could be any sort of issue, but just to hard to go through all of the possibilites w/o having physical access to it. Chances are it's dead, or something real stupid and easy to fix. PCI cards are a dime a dozen, so just pick the cheapest one with the best reviews.

Yeah I tried the new connection wizard and got a big nothing (it's an always on connection, so all the wizard says is "it should be working!"), so I'm pretty sure the port itself is dead. Dunno if the t-storm caused it specifically but it was working fine yesterday evening, and wasn't working when I got home last night after the storm had passed. Seems like too much of a coincidence =/ Thanks for the help anyway, guess I'll just grab a card off newegg
