Cable to capture audio? (i.e. PS3/CD Audio to Laptop)

Now I've never done this before, so I am only assuming, but I once brought some speakers which basically has the 2 ends where you're supposed to plug into some "headphone" slot (usually the green coloured one)

To capture audio, say from a PS3, is it just a matter of plugging the output audio cable from the PS3, to the pink/audio in hole on my laptop and then start recording? (via windows sound recorder or equivalent)

I don't have a lot of room or the means to buy extra equipment, so I'm wondering if this is that simple or do I need some uber complex setup to do so?

On my laptop I've got 4 holes, black/green/orange, I can pick any of them to be my headphone (front, subwoofer/centre, rear surround respectively) and a pink one for audio in/mic.

I don't have a ps3 so I don't know what the cables/ports are like, but yeah it's pretty simple. If you still have those speakers, you can go ps3 > speaker > headphone port > laptop-mic port with the double ended plug.

Otherwise, you need an RCA converter like http://www.snapstream.com/images/com...e/IMG_2207.jpg

Hmm I just tried to find those speakers, they're no where to be found!! However your "you can go ps3 > speaker > headphone port > laptop-mic port with the double ended plug" confused me there

This RCA Coverter seems simple/good enough, I assume I shove the black end into the mic port?
