    Using television as a monitor

So I'm finally watching Lost an almost on Season 6 which leaves me with streaming through Hulu or torrenting the episodes to watch. I'd rather watch them on my television if possible, but I'm not sure how to get audio on my TV and all I can get is a picture. Is it possible to run audio through an HDMI cable as well so I get audio and video through my TV, or will I only get audio through the TV and have to get sound through my laptop? If I can't run audio through an HDMI, do I have any other options?

    Thanks in advance.

Need to know some details of your laptop and TV:

    1. Does your laptop support audio output over HDMI?
    2. Does your laptop support video output over VGA?
    3. Does your TV support video input over VGA?
    4. Does your TV support audio input over 3.5mm audio?

Do you have a PS3,360? If so just stream hulu using playon or something of the like.

I have both systems, but I've never heard of playon. Since 360 doesn't have a web browser and Hulu got yoinked from PS3 I didn't think those were an option.

When using something like that, is there any specific settings I have to do once I have it or do I just hook it up and then use the TV like I would watching a movie?

Since you're already getting video, all you'd need from that bundle is the 3.5mm male-to-male cable. http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

If your tv doesn't have an input audio port for that, you may need something like this instead http://i39.tinypic.com/whntqo.jpg

Other than that, there's no extra settings needed since you already can get the video working, you know what to do.

It has a 14 day trial if you want to test it out.

I bought it before the netflix started offering its disk to watch their stuff, and seen this can stream hulu and netflix. A lot of their plugins are user made for different streaming websites. Check out their forums, etc.

I did a quick look over and didn't see an audio input that I would need for the first one, but it just may have been me overlooking.

As for the second one, before I do something stupid and spend money on something I don't need, this would be what I would need to buy if I went that avenue correct?

Thanks for all the replies; spending the 7 or so hours huddled around my laptop monitor with my fiancee isn't really how I wanted to catch up on season six of Lost.

Correct--3.5mm stereo miniphone to Red/White RCA. You might run into an issue with that setup though if your TV doesn't have a separate audio input for the HDMI port and doesn't allow you to select audio and video sources separately. I would think most HDTVs would at this point, but I'm not certain.

I have my computer running to my TV with hdmi to my TV and the running audio to my Sound System via the stereo cable. Was not difficult to do if you have a receiver like that.

If your TV has a HDMI in port and your laptop has an HDMI output port you should be able to transfer both audio and video over it with just a HDMI cable. Go through your TV's audio options on its menu to see if you need to tell it to use the HDMI port. Also open up the volume's "Playback Devices" to make sure it's listed there.
