Theatre I was at didnt have Cola sadly.

Everyone involved in this movie not only forgot the face of their fathers, they pretty much took a giant steaming dump on their graves. Except for some cool ways to reload a revolver, there is nothing redeeming about this film. And it gets exponentially the worse the more you know about the source material.

Ignoring that it's just a straight up bad movie, it has a major problem in that non-book readers will have no fucking idea what's going on because they explain so little (no explanation for any of the villains motivations, nothing about Roland's past save some throwaway lines, nothing about the history of Mid World), whereas book readers will be so disgusted by how horrendously the material is handled.

It's literally just generic young adult movie #20xx with the basic concept of the Dark Tower series mixed in. Book readers can pretty much understand what they are getting in to with one single point, Jake is the main character. Other then a dream sequence Roland doesn't even show up until like 20 minutes into the movie. And since I know some people were wondering, the movie makes no real references to the concept of it being a new cycle. I'm pretty sure that was just thrown around to try to shield the film from criticism, which obviously isn't working.

So I guess I was right and we don't get anywhere near Jake's fate from the book.

I'd just never talk to them again. They have nothing of value to add.

Thanks to those that watched this. Not surprised but still slightly disappointed. To me The Dark Tower is King's finest work and it's a shame that movie wise it's a dud.

Alright so got back from seeing this. And uh...it's bad. It's so, so bad. It's "im glad i went on $5 tuesdays but still kinda want my money back" bad.

I went in knowing nothing about Dark Tower, and left...not really knowing anything about Dark Tower.

Plot points are rushed through so quickly you barely have time to process it, there are about a zillion basic movie tropes strewn around that it feels like the writers just threw the script together in an evening, the acting is college drama class level shit*, and the jokes were so unfunny I almost didn't catch when they were trying. I'm actually embarrassed for the people involved in this shit show. I was groaning under my breath every 5 minutes.

Special props go to Mcconaughy for stinking this turd up especially well; I think he was going for "menacing demon from hell" type evil, and completely missed it and hammed it up into "possible sexual predator" evil. Good lord.

*One standout is Idris Elba. I'm starting to really enjoy the guy's work. He was definitely acting a step above the rest of his co stars.

I didn't hate it, and I read this afterwards and felt like it added some value to the movie:

Get back in the saddle -- rumors and speculation that Amazon is making a Dark Tower series:

Call it coincidence, call it ka, but there’s now an even bigger hint a Dark Tower television series is in development for Amazon.

    Samesies.

I think a series or minis-series is a better format just due to the nature of the source material.

I don't mind the concept of the story being another "cycle" or whatever but I'd still like it to very closely follow the books

Maybe a better place to ask than the book thread, but a week or two ago, I decided I'd dive into this series again, and this time finish it. While I'd read the first couple books some time ago, I never got far in the series. My question is what to do with The Wind Through the Keyhole. Would people suggest I read that between 4 and 5, or is it a case where there is added value to reading that after going in the original order?

Personally, I would suggest reading the original 7 in order, then TWTTK. There are some aspects that, I find, make more sense if you've read the whole series first. But the other option is not BAD either. I'd say that in the end it's a bit like the Star Wars OT and NT debate. Either way, enjoy the ride!

After months of rumors and speculation, Deadline now reports that Amazon has cast Sam Strike (Nightflyers) as the new Roland Deschain, aka the Gunslinger, in its TV adaptation of the Stephen King book series. Jasper Pääkkönen (Vikings) has also been cast as Marten, one of the many aliases of the Man in Black.

He looks way too young, but I'm hearing this is supposed to be more of Roland's Origin story (Wizard and Glass??).

Yeah it's Wizard and Glass, this actor they cast for Roland is pretty good, I liked him in Nightflyers
