Entertainment Weekly reports that The Dark Tower movie will be shifting from a February 17 debut to an non-specific summer release window. The film’s principal photography was completed as of this past July but it’s going to need more time for post-production.

Listening to Idris Elba recite the Gunslingers Creed is the only part of that I really enjoyed. Everything else looks like generic young adult action film with zero respect for the source material. I know it's supposed to be on a different cycle so they don't have to follow the books, but ugh.

I liked the trailer. I'm going in with zero expectation and just hope it's entertaining. The Dark Tower was my favorite book series and I personally believe it's near impossible for a movie to match what the books produced.

I was OK with the last line. What concerned me most was the part where Jake seems to be trying to convince Roland he needs to save the tower. That's a pretty big difference from the books - Roland never needed convincing of that, and provides a significant characterization difference.

Agreed. Roland's not supposed to be a reluctant hero, he's supposed to be an obsessed killer, willing to sacrifice anything and anyone for his quest. I guess I can understand this different portrayal considering that trailer gave me the impression there is zero chance Jake is dying.

I think he retains very faint ideas or recollections from past cycles... at least that's how I took it after reading the ending

Pure speculation, but maybe the cycle we saw in the books actually "broke" Roland. Meaning that he lost his resolve to be a Gunslinger. I dunno, it looks to me like they're kind of fusing book 1 & 2 together a bit, while omitting the Eddie & Odetta part in the first movie. The main actors seem to deliver, so I'm definitely hyped for this and while most likely day 1 it.

Side note, but a few weeks back I was playing poker at a casino and a guy at the table looked like Idris. I made a comment about it and he started busting up saying all his friends say it too.
