I'm assuming he's an AMG - American medical graduate. If OP is overseas, then I apologize since I don't know as much about non American-style medical education. But, I assumed he matched because to incur an average of $114,000 student loan debt (current average debt for medical school graduates, and that factors in people at USUHS who are soon-to-be military docs graduating with $0 debt, and others that do HPSP to pay for school), it is pretty retarded to do a non-clinical career after that, i.e. for a biotech. If you want to work for a biotech, they aren't going to hire someone with no clinical experience and freshly graduated from medical school. Actually I take that back, you could be a worker bee at the firm, or worst case scenario you'll be washing glassware.

Just an M.D./D.O. by itself is pretty useless. If you go to med, graduate, and don't move on to internship & residency with that kind of debt burden, it's a long and tough road ahead of you if you have the kind of loans most people have to pay back. And you can no longer defer/claim economic hardship on the loans during residency, they will start to accrue interest once your grace period is up after graduating.

So a PGY1 can be characterized as a "guaranteed job"? OK.

Alternatively, maybe he had a few papers published, got a job as a sales rep for a medical device company, and plans to do residency a few years down the line, though that might be a little more far-fetched than a med school graduate seeking financial advice on BG

That second scenario is unlikely, plus I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at. If you match, then yes, you have a job. Can you be terminated? Yes. Do they try to make an effort to rehabilitate whatever your deficiency is before you're terminated? Yes. Moreover, with that being said, if you're a U.S. senior at the moment, there are more than enough spots into which to match. If you're an idiot and rank programs and specialties you are not competitive for, then yes, you will not match and will have to scramble. Worst case scenario you go unmatched, can't scramble into a position and you're screwed. For 2009, looking at the NRMP data, 14,566 US seniors out of 15,638 matched into a PGY1 position (that's 93.1%, where it has hovered over the past 5 years). That data is located here if you're bored, http://www.nrmp.org/data/resultsanddata2009.pdf, I was looking at p. 17. While it isn't guaranteed, the odds of matching into a PGY1 position are in your favor as a US senior, even a US osteopathic grad, over a US IMG/IMG.

At the same time, sometimes hospitals close (SEE: St. Vincent's in Greenwich Village, NYC), which means AFAIK those residents affected are out of jobs.

If I had a point, my point would be his post is B.S. Not B.S. as in untruthful (who knows, who cares), but B.S. not really looking for advice. Yes, it's quite idiosyncratic to call any postgraduate training a "guaranteed job," reality. Why are you wasting time imparting advice to an audience of none?

McDonald's is one of the worst companies to work for. Fuck. That. Shit.

Even if that were your last resort, I'd consider killing myself before ever flipping burgers again.

You are the one that dropped the "guaranteed job" moniker on it.

Acknowledge & move on. Why are you still responding after your initial troll-ish comment about D.O.'s?

OP's words, not mine. But you don't know what he was referring to, and I don't, so who the fuck cares.

I didn't think anyone would actually be baited into taking it seriously. Get over it.

Why are you about to be in foreclosure?
Have you contacted the bank on resolutions?
    Did you save ANY money?
    How big is your house?
    Your interest rate?
What is the value of the house?
Do you have ANY money, even from a tax refund?
Have you spammed every possible employer with a resume?
Why are you reading this and not working for a temp agency right now?

Answer these questions in an attempt to fix your dilemma.

I lost my job, (and still don't have one) and managed to remodify my loan from 1500/mo to 1200/mo, Though it will be cutting it damn fucking close I will be able to pay my mortgage off on 290 a week from unemployment. (don't ask how)

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Really don't believe the op was giving a bit of truth considering he has yet to respond to this thread.

whoa man, I think out of fear of being too long-winded, I gave too little information and kind of lost everybody here. I'm in deeper shit than what everyone was assuming.

When I said med school, I didn't mean for MD, that was a stupid generalization on my part. I just finished practicum for Pharm Tech, but not one of those pill counting artists, a lead tech starting IV's and moving onto chemo prep, etc.

Here's why I'm in a bad situation: I live in a habitat community with my moms and we have 3 defaults. Basically, foreclosure process is asap, as they have other families waiting for houses. We both have been doing med careers to escape this unemployement hell. She's still finishing up for MBC abd she was the one who convinced me to change careers after I got laid off with 5yrs of customer service employement. Shit is dead, I have had a job callback in 2years. So while doing oddjobs and going to school, things are falling apart at the finish line. Guaranteed job starting at $14/hr is waiting for me and its making me insane lol

I haven't had any work in months, we are basically riding on our loans/scholarships/grants and the blessing of food stamps. Our immediate family doesn't have that kind of money to loan out, there's no way my bank would loan a broke ass student with no real credit. Which is a shame too, because my last job all I did was bank cash for whatever major purchase I did(car, tv, studio equip, etc.) And looking back, I wish I wasn't a smartass and built up credit instead of doing it the oldfashion way lol

Now, my car shitted on me long ago(fuckin fords), every luxory I owned is gone(my studio, games, etc.), this is why I'm plottin stupid shit like jacking my bank account and risking fraud. But, do you really blame me? Seeing how close I am to getting out of this hole, humbled, and more greatful for what I got, wanting to take this experience and apply it to helping others. I no longer feel indifferent to folks who really are homeless or the word "wellfare".

I'm writing this at the library, so sorry for the delayed replies. Thanks dudes, I really do appreciate the advice and the encouragement.

You've been given a lot of advice on how to grunge up cash, if you're really so desperate collect cans and bottles to recycle, shit when I was in high school I would go to a racetrack about 45min from my house with a friend and after all the fans left would pick up all the bottles/cans I could find, could seriously make 100-200 bucks doing that shit. Go mow lawns, recycle cans, sell w/e you have that you dont need. To be totally honest this seems more like a scam than anything though.

Just wanted to give an update to those who took their time to try and help their fellow man. I don't know how a couple of you can aquire "scammer" from reading anything in my posts, I think it would be pretty counter-productive to ask for an anonomous-loan on a gaming forum lol

I have nothing but respect for these forums man, been coming here for 5-6yrs. I know with the gaming kids on here, there are alot of intellectuals with many different backrounds and knowledge. I have yet to run into a gaming forum that would seriously entertain giving legal advice lol

As for what I'm doing right now, I had already noted that I sold anything I had of value. I really wasn't the type of person to even own alot of material things, so most of what I had was already sold before/during school. Temp job search is a neverending deadend and Day Labor is swamped with odds like 5-6 out of 50 workers going out most days. I don't consider any job below me, so my bad fortune isn't due to lack of effort.

And make no mistake, do not confuse "desperation" with "surrender". Currently, I'm trying to escalate talks with the company handling our mortgage. I'll try to make a case for another month extension by providing my loan contracts that show about $1300 in payment by the end of this month. Wish me luck, thanks for readin folks 8-)

That's pretty much the avg. for the probationary period standard in hospitals. I believe after IV approval it goes up to $16/hr and something like $18/hr for chemo prep. Keep in mind, this is in Tampa Bay dude, a $14/hr job is nonexistant here, even for those holding BA's. Infact, I know people with BA's that have no choice but to work at a Mcdonalds or telemarketing companies. You figure with the underemployment rate being at what 16-17% now? My backround in callcenters and retail cust. service is worthless nowadays on monster.com lol
