Laptop hdd failing

So my parents have my old laptop, and its starting to give errors when win7 boots up saying the hard drive is reporting failures, etcetc. It only has one hard drive, and I'll have to buy another direct from the manufacturer (sager) since they seem pretty proprietary.
Any suggestions/tips to make transfers less painful? I have another computer to dump the data on.
In all honesty if I could completely mirror the drive, from a > b > c, b being another computer to go from one to the other (since i can only have one drive in the lappy at a time) it would make things soooo much easier. I'd rather not have to do a fresh install if possible.

I'm fairly sure their HDDs are just standard ones shoved inside a caddy.

Its an NP5790, they have this weird right angle sata adapter, but it looks like its a physical part of the hdd itself. regardless of where I get the hdd from, I'm more concerned with trying to mirror it to a replacement.

Considering, you should be able to get an adapter, or an enclosure, and do whatever you want on a full size PC. You have no reason to pay the manufacturer a premium for their overpriced replacement.
