I know they make Subetex which is just straight Buprenorphine (and is now available in generic, my fucking doctor won't switch me), which obviously has more risk of abuse and can be snorted/injected if you so choose.
I've taken just about every benzo in the book, I was prescribed Xanax 0.5mg for almost a year but then my doctor wanted me to switch because I was fatigued all the time. The problem with taking any benzo long-term for insomnia is that it apparently changes sleep architecture-- I know I don't dream on it and if I take it for longer than 3 days I wake up really groggy.
I'm not sure if I had withdrawal from Xanax or not, there was a good month where I'd get crippling anxiety attacks in the mid-late morning (even though I always took it at night) but I had surprisingly little rebound insomnia. Chances are this is because my doctor put me on another sleep aid (most prescription sleep aids work on your gaba receptors just like benzos, apparently).
I was worried about taking Ambien so I've been taking Sonata for the past few months with mixed results. Lunesta works best for me, but it makes everything taste metallic and it's fucking insanely expensive without prescription coverage, so I'm stuck with the Z-drugs until I get insurance. He tried to put me on this shit called Desyrel (Trazodone) which made me catatonic with even as little as 1/4 of a pill, apparently that goes away after a few weeks but I felt like such shit I couldn't even make it 2 days.
I've been taking Suboxone for a while now, pretty sure it's just maintenance therapy at this point, but I used to take a LOT of vicodin (norco 10/325s), about 12 per day... basically my limit was 4000mg of APAP a day so I didn't zap my liver. I've taken a bunch of other opiates too, but I've been off that stuff for a while now. Once you start it's unbelievably tough to stop, eventually you no longer get high from them and you're just taking a massive quantity to prevent withdrawal, which is probably the worst pain I've ever experienced. If it wasn't for suboxone I would almost certainly be dead by now.
