It's completely plausible I hate to tell you. This really goes for nearly every line of work though (aka a friend getting special discounts at a friend's workplace, etc). FFXI is not srs biznis to most of the people working at SE lol (hence why they don't give a shit about your account).

I wasn't talking about just this instance, brah. I've started to notice a majority of your posts are following the same tone in terms of believability. In fact, its been like that for quite a bit.

These things also happen when you sell your account when you quit, and then decide to take it back later out of boredom.

Well, banning can also occure due to how you quit the game. Irregular activity can also include problems in payment. A former LS mate for example had his account banned due to a chargeback by the credit card institude. I don't remember... either it was a prepaid credit card, or his bank account didn't have enough funds. So the Credit Card company couldn't get the money, and they charged back the money SE took from credit card. The customer service said that the charge back caused some costs to SE and that's why they banned him.

Another former LS member had his account banned cause he decided to quit, and he cancled his credit card. When he decided to come back his found his character banned.

I don't know if SE still handles it like that, but the above described cases were like 3 years back.

That's because that is what is known as a chargeback, which in most companies eyes looks like someone skipping out on paying their bills. SE always bills in advance. If they charge your credit card for the following month of play, and it comes back denied, the account is instantly LM-17'd.

In this situation, as many have repeated, calling SE is the only way to find out why. Someone above posted the account was seen farming just weeks ago. Being hacked is a possibility, then banned for RMT, etc.

Or he sold his account, just attempted to recall it, and was told it was banned for RMT last week, and is now here trying to find a way around the system.

Or any other number of bannable offenses as LM-17 is a blanket-ban for like, what, 50+ different possibilities?

I quit over a year ago, I'd find it interesting if it was hacked and seen farming in Tavnazia as little as a few weeks ago, considering I've bought a brand new computer and not touched anything FFXI-related in half a year at minimum. The issue they gave me was 'credit card related' so I imagine it had something to do with an inadvertent chargeback or something. But, that still leaves the mystery of who was using my d00d in Tavnazia farming..

Well, no, not really. RMT's, in order to avoid being discovered, change credit cards used very often. In the case of RMT-bannings, if SE links an account to RMT activity, they will usually ban every account associated with that credit card.

The drawback to this, though: SE caught on a couple of years ago. Now, if an account changes credit cards "more than usual", SE will auto-ban it for suspected RMT activity. So if this is the case, mystery solved.

Call SE again, ask for more detailed information. Last time the account was active, was it linked to RMT, was it just a charge back a year ago, etc.

Sorry, but your LS mate is full of shit. Chargebacks don't work that way. Not having enough money on a card (prepaid or otherwise) would just create:

    - Insufficient funds response, and SE would never get paid.

    or

    - Overdraft on his card, which the bank would recoup from him.

Chargeback is just a different way of saying Bank Assisted Dispute, and as the name implies the transaction has to be disputed before it can occur. Chargebacks do cost the merchant of record, and they get charged extra for trying to dispute them. On top of that, your overall chargeback rate is monitored by the CCA, and they will pull your plug if it gets too high.

The most likely story is that the guy needed the cash or expected not to play again, and disputed the fee. I know my company immediately closes down the account of anyone who charges back their application fee, SE would be stupid if they didn't do the same.

SE wanted you to continue burning a hole in your pocket with this game, said your time wasn't up.
