I'll agree with Lockecole7 on 100 Rogues being awesome.

Bump because I didn't want to make a new thread.
Although its not exactly a game I recommend downloading FreeAppADay. I've gotten some cool games so far from this like Deer Hunter Challenge, Skycat, Angry Stick, etc most of my library is from that app.
Also Add me on Game Center Snacks48
bumping since the Ipad 2 comes out tomorrow, and I am almost definitely going to be buying one early next week. Anyone have any recommendations for must-play games? So far I am probably going to hit up Infinity Blade first, then Dead Space. I've heard really good things about Aralon: Sword and Shadow (supposedly a big open world wRPG)
I know Gameloft makes mostly clones but they're supposed to good, yea? I've been looking at Sacred Odyssey (which I guess is like Zelda) and Eternal Legacy (which is like FF13) mostly, although I think if I'm going to sink more time into a big RPG on an idevice I might bite the bullet and spend money on Chaos Rings.
It occurs to me that we don't discuss idevice gaming nearly enough on these forums :<
also I have watched basically every single video review AppSpy has ever put out in the past few weeks lol. Now I have a list of like 40-50 games I want to get for iphone/ipad...
http://www.slidetoplay.com is decent for news/reviews too I guess.
Oooh, that's a useful site, I hadn't heard of Aralon. I'm in the same boat as you, iPad 2 inc, have an iphone already, and I can definetly say you're on the right track with Infinity Blade, it has to be one of the best, if not the best iPhone game, and having more space on screen for it is even better... To be honest, i'm suprised they don't make a Kinnect or Move version of this game, because it's probably one of the few games I can think of that would be very good for motion control.
I did try one sort of MMO game on iphone, but it's pointless, screen size is just too small to work it properly, but iPad makes it a different story I would think.
was it Xenome Ep. 1?
Btw Gameloft is having a sale on their iPad games, Dungeon Hunter is currently 99 cents and Dungeon Hunter 2 supposedly will be tomorrow, and I think there's a few decent things on there (Settlers, etc) but not too much else I was interested in. EA is also having a sale, Dead Space is currently 6.99 (I think it's usually 10, although I suspect it'll permanently drop below 7 eventually) and Mirror's Edge is $2.99. Oh, and Inotia 3 is currently 99 cents as well. (Ipad/universal versions on all those btw, in case it wasn't clear)
There's actually a LOT of rpgs on ipad/iphone now, mostly korean grindfests but quite a few wRPGs and diablo clones.
I'm pissed I missed the Infinity Blade sale when it was 3 bucks last week :<
I always cross my fingers and hope to see something like Dungeon and Fighter on ipad or any portable system, since it's so suited for itBut I'm not THAT sold on iPad RPGs so far in general, but I have lots of hope
... ok preferably jrpg >_> stuff that doesnt require tight controls. Or the ability to use a bluetooth controller :O
I know it's just kinda a list, but if you're willing to do a little research on the US released korean RPGs you might be able to find something like Dungeon and Fighter:
Blademaster
Caligo Chaser
Demon Hunter: Return of the Wings
Dragon Sword
Guardian Soul
Hybrid/Hybrid 2
Illusia
Inotia/Inotia 2/Inotia 3
Itarus
Maple Story Thief Edition
Queens Crown
Seed/Seed 2
Wild Frontier
I dunno what kinda game Dungeon and Hunter is but yeah, there are a lot of korean RPGs on iphone lol
edit: here's a full list of iPad games on sale for the launch of iPad 2 apparently:
Spoiler: show
I wonder if I should spring for Eternal Legacy now too...
Since we mentioned RPGs, anyone saw/catched Secret of Mana (yes, that one, on the SNES; also known as Seiken Densetsu 2) -- seems like it's got shoddy controls, but otherwise is a direct port with a minor anime portrait upgrade for the main chars.
Vouching for infinity blade its fantastic, Chaos Rings is also really good
apparently the ipad versions of Dead Space and Infinity Blade both got graphical updates today, whee. Those will probably be my first 2 games, I don't really want to spend 10 bucks on chaos rings considering I just bought a handful of games on iTunes already, and I'm hoping I can catch a sale for less than 12 bucks eventually.
Oh also Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor HD is also on sale for 99 cents, supposed to be a really neat game.
edit: oh wait, 16 bucks for the ipad version of Chaos Rings? Yea I'll wait on that...
Little Wings is hella fun, you control a small flightless bird who travels across islands using momentum, getting air over hills and trying to smoothly transition from one hill to another. It's tough to describe but very cool and quite addictive!
yea it is, it's the big new popular casualish addictive game although I don't think it's anywhere near as engaging as angry birds
Here's a good video review http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpmcX-rWGfs
It's the feeling of getting back to back perfect slides and going stupidly far and high. But yes, if you boil it down to its core gameplay features it is just an endless side scroller with a gimmicky gameplay feature. (Pessimism much?)
speaking of korean RPGs, Wild Frontier (iphone app) is currently free.
Oh and Street Fighter IV is on sale for 99 cents (also an iphone app)
has anyone played Aralon: Sword and Shadow? I want to play an open world RPG, but I'm not sure if Aralon is better than something like Ravensword or The Quest. The reviews definitely have me interested though.
Mission: Europa is out today, looks pretty neat besides the somewhat crappy graphics. Space FPS/RPG with a horror-ish feel ala system shock, also has a customizable interface and a massive game world consisting of 50 levels, 170 quests, and loads of loot. Kinda sweet
also in honor of the release the devs previous game, Necromancer Rising, is free for 24 hours. It also looks like a pretty sweet action rpg
What's with all the AppStore games requiring iOS4.0+ nowadays when they hardly make use of the new stuff. -.-
Toting a Touch 1G here, I can't even play Angry Birds Seasons on this thing. Wouldn't have killed Apple to give a more limited form of iOS4 to it free of charge just so I can play more recent titles on it, even if they may perform shitty like some of the games I own already do.
Are games that are marked free stay tied to your account btw? I added Necromancer to my download list just so it's there for any future devices (may get an iPad2/3/4/etc some day), but I'd rather have it not sit on my HD wasting space.
How long is Dead Space btw? Tempted to nab it, but I get the feeling it'll perform poorly on my Touch 1G, unless I can tinker with the visuals...
I purchased Eternal Legacy HD, graphically it's slightly above avg, very simple but clean. Played a bit, low-end, typical JRPG fare, turning off the voice acting makes it better, worth it if you like that type of thing.
Damn, didn't take long for it to skyrocket to the top of the charts either. Was surprised that they added more fighters to the game over time. It originally came with just 8. Plays fairly well even with the simplified controls, did a tourney run on both Ken and Guile before callin' it a night.
Also picked up Driver for a buck. Decent port job, although the controls take some getting used to, and it runs choppy on my Touch, probably because no one optimizes for first-gen anymore these days.
