welp, it was only a matter of time before gameloft came out with this, a WoW-ish clone of MMORPGs for your iphone/ipad. It actually looks pretty well done, at least with their ripoffs of Uncharted/Resident Evil/Starcraft/Final Fantasy 13/Zelda the game quality is pretty high so it might be pretty good:

Classic Final Fantasy Style RPG : Ash

It's on sale now for 0.99, and it's a great turn based rpg with a good story.

looks like PopCap is having a sale tomorrow (from midnight saturday til midnight sunday) with proceeds going to earthquake relief. Not really sure what's on the sale, probably Plants vs. Zombies, Peggle, Bejeweled etc.

also Sword and Sworcery *should* be coming out in the next few days/week (rumor was 3/21). This game looks so amazing:

Being a cheap lazy ass, are there any other sources like FAAD that gives out titles free or discounted on a regular basis?

Ya appshopper is a godsend, discovered it a month ago. Also toucharcade.com is probable your best newsfeed for iPhone apps and there forums are very active.

To kaisha, you should really upgrade your device iPod 4g just give so much compared to older model. I think dead space only works with iPod 2g and up, it's about 3 or 4 hours long normally but it definitely replayable for a few more playthroughs and yes you only need to make purchases once to share anything bought to any other device that includes most in app purchases but your game current progress is tied to the device it's on

...and Sword & Sworcery is out, and supposedly awesome. 9.5 from IGN: http://wireless.ign.com/articles/115/1157373p1.html

$4.99 too, I was thinking it was going to be closer to 10.

Anyone give it a try yet?

edit: also, S-E has released Final Fantasy III for iPhone today, for the ridiculously steep price of $15.99. The good news? All of their other games are currently half off, until March 31st:
    iPad
Chaos Rings for iPad - $7.99
Crystal Defenders for iPad - $3.99
    Chocobo Panic - $1.99

    iPhone
    Secret of Mana - $3.99
    Chaos Rings - $5.99
    Final Fantasy I - $3.99
    Final Fantasy II - $3.99
    Song Summoner - $4.99
Hills and Rivers Remain - $1.99
    Sliding Heroes - $.99
    Vanguard Storm - $1.99
    Crystal Defenders - $3.99

I just bought FFIII and I guess its price is steep for a iphone game. It plays beautifully on my ipod 4g with retina display and is LOUD with clean audio. The backround for most places look... odd at most times, I kinda like it do be honest, I can't help but look at every bit of detail when entering new scenery. Multitasking is supported to.

Two things that bother me somewhat though are trying to get your character to face a specific direction and how the fps is not constantly at a certain number though it never gets really horrible.

So how is Secret of Mana? I never actually played that game ever. Only played legend of mana and children of mana.

I guess I'll be nabbing Chaos Rings in the following week, been interested in trying it. Shouldn't run too horribly on my Touch either since it's just 3d models on pre-rendered backgrounds from the look of things.

I'm a bit curious what their pricing idea is on half of these games though. FF3 I can kinda understand in that perhaps they don't want to undercut sales of the DS release (which is now old) by too much, but the other titles..... I guess they just charge a premium because they can? Only thing I can say is that at least the ports will last you quite a few hours and have a lot of content in it versus a lot of the shit on AppStore that want your dollar or two.

S-E has always been overpriced on the App store, for example with Chaos Rings the regular price is $12.99, the iPad version however was originally priced at $15.99 and supposedly had no graphical updates over the iPhone version blown up to 2x, which is part of the reason why I waited to buy it.

Of course now that it's on sale I have a dilemma, whether to spend 2 bucks more ($7.99) on Chaos Rings for iPad and not have to worry about playing it blown up, or spend $5.99 on the iPhone version and play it in 2x mode, with the ability to play on an iPhone down the road if I end up getting one. Any thoughts?

4 bucks for Secret of Mana isn't a bad deal either, especially considering it was just released recently. Oh and also apparently Sliding Heroes is Free, not 99 cents, although I hear it's pretty terrible. I am semi-considering Vanguard Storm as well, but not Crystal Defenders since I am terrible at TD games and already have it for Xbox.

I was always under the impression that the iPad was backwards compatible with iOS apps designed for Touch/Phone, is that not the case?

I think that's only the case for universal apps. I don't think you can play iPad specific apps on iphone, whereas you can play non-universal iphone apps on ipad and just blow them up.

Ah, I'd have just figured since the iPad appears to be a glorified Touch that it'd at least be able to runs games that were designed to run on that.

On the iPod subject, can anyone confirm if the iTunes backup includes game save data? My Notes app is fucked up in that it seems to be stuck in a read-only mode, and doing any action to the notes/adding one will just crash the app. Was thinking of restoring it from a fresh slate and reloading the backup.

yeah it does, the iPad runs any app: iPad apps are full size, universal apps (denoted by a plus sign by their price in the app store) automatically scale up to full size as well. iPhone/iPod apps can be run on iPad, but you either have to choose between an iphone-size screen surrounded by a huge black border or you can scale it up 2x and play in fullscreen (at the expense of graphics quality). However, iPad-specific apps will not run on iPhones or iPads, so if you were to buy the more expensive "Chaos Rings for iPad" app you'd only be able to run it on iPad and nothing else.

I think I'll probably just spring for Chaos Rings for iPad, and if I really want to play it if/when I get an iPhone down the line I'll worry about it then. 2 bucks isn't that big of a deal for one of the games I've been wanting the most.

Also Dead Space is fucking awesome.

gameloft is having a sale Saturday and Sunday (26th and 27th) on 3 of their newest games for 99 cents each:
-Eternal Legacy (FF13-style RPG, normally $4.99)
-Starfront: Collision (Starcraft-style RTS, normally $6.99)
    -Sacred Odyssey (Zelda-style action/adventure, normally $6.99)

Pretty good deals on what are supposed to be great games. I'm guessing they just mean the iPhone versions are going on sale, not really sure if the HD versions of Eternal Legacy/Sacred Odyssey will drop to 99c as well but it stands to reason they'd have some sort of price reduction too.

That Sword and Sorcery game looks fun.

I got FF3 recently too. I saw Secret of Mana but it didn't look nearly as awesome as SD3 or Secret of Mana 2 (I believe).
