That game just reminds me how bad I want a modern Star Control II.

finally caved and bought Infinity Blade... holy fucking shit. Got through 2 bloodlines and got to around level 10, I kinda fucked up my first playthrough and went through the sewers (which I guess are the entrance to the DLC update) and skipped the whole castle my first playthrough, so now I'm trying to get as much exp as possible. Some of the enemies are cheap/frustrating and it definitely feels like the difficulty ramps up very quickly, but after about 2 hours of playing I can safely say it's the best iPhone game I own.

Anyone know any good/cheap point & click adventure games? I know Drawn: The Painted Tower is supposed to be gorgeous but it's really pricey. Preferably an ios original/exclusive and not a port, that is

Is there an atlas app someone could recommend for Canada? Been roadtrippin' lately, and an atlas book can be annoying to sift through.

There's also a slick looking remake of Death Rally. Would love to pay for that, but 3rdG minimum needed.

Perfect Cell is 99c today, it's kinda a neat stealth/action sidescroller. It's universal too:

Also, in case anyone is looking for some fun free games:

Zombie Trailer Park is one of those troop-style TD games where you train troops to push back the zombies, using various classes like survivalists, preachers, and hilbillies with shovels or shotguns. It's pretty good for a free game, although I'd definitely like to get something like Legendary Wars or Dark Lords eventually too.

Doodle Fit is currently free, it's a puzzle game where you fit various shapes into a given mold. It's pretty addictive.

DragonSlasher is fucking awesome. It's a sidescrolling action RPG that's pretty damn difficult, it almost feels like Out of This World meets Demon's Souls. It's a LOT of fun:

I'm still trying to convince myself to bite the bullet and buy Battleheart...

EA is having a sale this weekend on some of its iPod/iPhone games (iPad versions are still regular price, sadly) including:

    Dead Space for $4.99
    Monopoly for $.99
    SimCity Deluxe for $.99

Full list is here: http://www.ea.com/news/iphone-spring-sale although there's not a lot else besides Sims stuff. If you have an iPad I'd definitely wait to buy Dead Space's HD version for that, but it's a pretty sweet game regardless.

Cave World's bullet hell shooters are on sale starting tomorrow (4/9) until 4/17, as well:
    Dondonpachi Revolution $4.99
    Mushihimesama Bug Panic $.99
Espgaluda II will probably be on sale too if it gets enough votes on OpenFeint

Oh and not really a game but StarWalk (that AR app that lets you identify constellations by pointing your camera at the sky) is 99c too

Anyone out there playing Aralon? I picked it up a few days ago, and it's actually kind of fun. In a lot of ways just way I was looking for in that I've felt like the Ios has been missing a good 3d non-turnbased action/RPG. I've only really had a chance to play around with ranger but so far I'm liking it.

Also picked up Frog Minute after reading a review on it on Kotaku. Very simplistic game, that never really goes anywhere but yet it awesome and entertaining. It's oddly relaxing. I think I spent a good hour or so, wide eyed, my first time playing. It's perfect type of game to give to a non gamer or a kid to keep them entertained for a little while.

I've been dying to pick up Aralon but from what I've seen on Appshopper it's only dropped below $9.99 once in the entire time it's been on the app store. My collection of games is steadily increasing and I still have a lot of meaty things to get through like Infinity Blade so I'll probably pick it up after that.

The devs who made Aralon apparently made Ravensword first, which is another open world RPG ala elder scrolls, although it's not as good and is an iphone app so you'll have to play in 2x mode on the ipad. There is a lite version, however.

I've also heard good stuff about the Aralon devs other game, Rimelands, which is sort of like a turn-based fallout style WRPG. Other than that most of the non-korean RPGs are diablo clones, like Underworlds and the Dungeon Hunter series. Dungeon Hunter 1 and 2 are actually pretty good.

Oh and Xenome Ep 1, also another iphone app but it's only 99c and has a big open world with lots of gear and stuff.

Damn, I'm surprised how optimized Dead Space is. More than playable on my 1st gen Touch. I've tried games that look shitloads worse that can barely perform. Runs fairly steady with the odd hiccup at it streams in stuff, but nothing I can't overlook. Controls great thankfully.

I need to offload these apps to my external drive though, getting low on space and I apparently have 4.5gb of doodags and games for my Touch downloaded.

Jules Verne's Return to Mysterious Island (iPad only version) is free today, if you're into hidden object/adventure games like me

also, Hot Springs Story (same people who made Game Dev Story) is on sale for $2.99, usual price is $4.99. Just like its predecessor it's an iphone app, but Game Dev Story doesn't look too badly blown up to 2x.

Gangstar: Miami Vindication (Gameloft's version of Grand Theft Auto) dropped to 99c last week too. Surprisingly the iPad version is on sale too (both versions are 7 bucks normally)

This is kinda awesome too... Atari just came out with Atari's Greatest Hits (universal app) which is free, and I think it comes with a few games included. Then you can purchase additional games in packs of 4 for 99 cents each, or you can buy the entire collection of 99 games for $14.99.
    edit: review http://www.appspy.com/ataris-greatest-hits-review

I love how with so many apps and the way itunes works, shit is always going on sale. I've been pretty good about not spending too much money on games (I think I've only bought 1 or 2 of the things I've posted about on this page lol) but it feels like ios gaming is a lot more exciting lately. I really want to see what kind of big games people have on the horizon (things on the order of magnitude with S&S and Infinity Blade) but it just feels more and more like apple is quickly slipping into the handheld games market in a huge way.

I wonder if apple will ever try to release an ipod touch geared towards gaming (iirc currently, the top of the line ipod touch has only 256mb of ram whereas the iphone 4 has 512) at a lower price point, like in the $250-300 range, to try and market the device to gamers specifically. It seems like such a sure thing with the ridiculous amounts of software already out for it.

That is why I hate my Iphone. I named it headache in itunes because it is such b.s. that doing something like adding a single song requires 5 mins of sync, not to mention having to backup copies of pos demos that I intend to delete after I spend 2 mins on them. I still use a 4 yr old drag-and-drop mp3 player with proper equilizer options because the iphone, besides being an inferior music player, is such a headache to manage files for...

That's one of the easier ones. Just ride the hills as fast as possible and don't jump ever.

Say, if I back up my mobile apps to an external drive and delete them from my lolMac, will iTunes bitch about my Touch having apps on it that are not on the host machine? Mainly trying to free up space here, but not at the cost of losing data.

Is there much content in Tiny Wings btw? I can't find a demo. Downloading one for Gangstar as we speak though as I want to see how well it runs before I nab it for a buck.

On the subject of sales, AppStore has got to be one of the most vicious marketplaces on the planet.

there's an interesting article about this game on TouchArcade today, called dream:scape. It's powered by unreal engine and features a huge world to explore (30 acres complete with interior areas) and it's mostly story driven, with the game progressing as you explore. Honestly the gameplay seems a little boring but it seems like it'll be a nice tech demo at least:

The player takes on the persona of a coma patient unlocking his past by exploring the dreamscape of his memories. As the player explores the huge open world, memories are unlocked. These are represented by cut-scenes, featuring audible dialog, and diary entries, which the player reads in-game via a 3-D representation of a leather-bound book. The player must determine which areas to explore so as to find and unlock the story.
    article:http://toucharcade.com/2011/04/11/un...and-beautiful/

It's currently in review with apple so it'll probably be out pretty soon
