I just want a game i can't beat on hard within 8 hours. I find myself renting or downloading cracked games because i don't want to pay 60 bucks for a game that i'll play once, last less than 8 hours, and never play again. This is one of the reasons i tend to get drawn into sandbox games.

Until I see these charts make a significant drop. They're still pumping & printing money with mostly in general, shit games.

The Wii will continue to engulf the more casual, younger market, along with the older generations for the next few years to come. Whatever misses the target, will end up on a Xbox live near you.

    This, pretty much.

Does simpler games mean simpler graphics? If so, also yes.

Graphics don't have to be super complex to be pretty/beautiful, and as long as the game looks somewhat pleasing, that's enough for me in terms of graphics.

Less time doing lots of graphics and videos and whatever, and more time with story and gameplay.

Ape Escape had a far more interesting story than Final Fantasy IV.

    Damn Nintendo, you scary!

Ignore Day, he's trying to troll, poorly.

I don't want simpler games, but sometimes simple can work. In general though, I enjoy nice graphics and complex storylines or gameplay elements. Simple was just a product of a simpler time when gaming was less popular and platforms significantly weaker.

Maybe, but those games were far more entertaining, at the time, than games of the current generation are now.

I hope to God they don't start dumbing down games. We have enough of that. Shit we MIGHT get a great challenging game, what every 3-4 years? The games I love the most have been the games that kicked my ass and had an amazing storyline.

I just want games with less tedium. I played through inFamous recently and had a good time with it, but some of the tasks were tedious: namely, collecting blast shards. I actually completed most of the other stuff (missions, uplinks, etc) but fuck combing the city for the last 50 shards. devs need to make content that isn't lazy (and thus usually tedious).

going way out of your way for little tokens, having to talk to every npc, grinding stats, etc.... even really slow gameplay in certain genres can be a downer. super repetitive gameplay too; why do I want to put 40 hours into a game if it's just gonna be 7 repetitions of the first 5?

You grew up. Again, nostalgia is heavily influencing your decisions.

They were far more entertaining at the time because you were younger and everything was newer and fresh. Kids today will remember games like Halo 3 in the same way you remember OoT. Deal with it.

This would be true even with nostalgia aside for me as I did seem enjoy them more back then, only problem is that we were kids back then and a lot easier to please, now as adults we critique and nitpick everything, and have our own opinions of how each aspect of a game should have been handled. I think that gets in the way of just enjoying the game most of the time.

How could the game that tops the majority of the greatest games ever lists not be considered challenging? Or were you referring to your 20th play through?

anything that gives me a new Total Annihilation (preferably with more story) rather than the sadness that is SupCom2, I'm in!

But too big, and too hard? really? the logical assumption would be that this is a consequence of gaming turning more mainstream I guess. I mainly play RTS/TBS with the occasional RPG, and the focus the last few years on controlling a small ragtag team and small and/or mobile bases, instead of the massive warmachine that was TA/SupCom etc. , the changes from SupCom => SupCom2 (and for that matter DoW:40k => DoW:40k 2) made me die a little inside :/
(best part of StarCraft for me was always using protoss Dark Achron to mind control builder units from other factions, arbiter warp them back to my base, then have 3x200 unit limit instead of just the regular 200 unit limit, glorious!)

I do wish for a new release of Master of Orion II, MoO III just didn't do it for me :/

maybe I am being nostalgic and have too fond memories, and yes, some of the TA custom maps were TOO bloody big, but I do enjoy having to spend a couple of hours to finish a mission, and if I mess up, I prefer it be from failing to manage a massive army, not because my 4 small groups of elite soldiers stood too close to an exploding gasoline tank!
(anyone have any game recommendations for me? :D)

    Ahahahaha. Let me redirect you:

Famitsu is, overwhelmingly, the voice of the Japanese games community, dwarfing all other publications in sales and influence. Take a look through the list.

    1. Final Fantasy X (2001)
    2. Final Fantasy VII (1997)
    3. Dragon Quest III (1988 )
    4. Dragon Quest VIII (2004)
    5. Machi (1998 )
    6. Final Fantasy IV (1991)
    7. Tactics Ogre (1995)
    8. Final Fantasy III (1990)
    9. Dragon Quest VII (2000)
    10. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998 )

    11. Dragon Quest V (1992)
    12. Far East of Eden 2 (1992)
    13. Sakura Taisen (1996)
    14. Dragn Quest IV (1990)
    15. Final Fantasy V (1992)
    16. Xenogears (1998 )
    17. Dragon Quest II (1987)
    18. Sakura Taisen III (2002)
    19. Kingdom Hearts (2002)
    20. Streetfighter II (1992)
Just one Greatest Games List of All Time of course but just by looking at the top twenty, I can name maybe a handful that were actually somewhat challenging. Final Fantasy? Ocarina of Time? The last challenging Final Fantasy game was Final Fantasy III only because the programmers decided it would be a wonderful idea to make you restart all the way from the beginning if you died somewhere during your exploration of the Tower near the end of the game.

Seeing how plenty of people prefer FF XIII type of gameplay over XII...I reckon that'd be a reasonable thing to say.
