According to the most popular theory, replicating organisms sole objective purpose for existing is to ensure the survival of their own genetic material over time. Large mammals (including Humans) tend to devote their resources to protect few offspring rather than to produce many.
This is not to say that we only protect our own offspring, however. Everything that is related to us has a fraction assigned to it based on how many of our genes they are likely to share. You are 100% related to yourself. Each of your children have 50% of your genes, and you get 50% of your own genes from each of your parents. Also, you share an average of 50% of your genes with any full brothers or sisters you have. In other words, all of these people are approximately half You.
This is where it gets a little tricky. Genetically, we are predisposed to protect and provide for as many copies of our genes as possible to ensure that they survive. The amount that we're willing to "spend", however, varies depending on how much of "ourselves" we're helping. There are several more factors to it, of course. For instance, we're more likely to provide for younger generations of our relations (especially children) as they have the most potential to carry our genes further.
There are, of course, many other factors to the system, but this is the very basic programming innate in most nurturing species. Humans, of course, have the most exceptions to this baseline evolution. I blame it on the faulty wiring of our (relatively) recently evolved reasoning functions. I'd say we're only in the Beta version of intelligence.
got the wife a spa package with 1hr massage and a mani/pedi
150$ and the bonus is she gets to be away from me and the kid for a couple hours. that's almost a gift in it's own
My Mom will be allowed to watch me play softball in the AM. Later I will give her flowers and a coffee mug with my sisters and my own mug on it.
Father's day is so much better. I really can't stand my Mom.
Ended up deciding to get her and my dad a nice flatscreen tv (as like a joint mother's day/father's day gift).
She's been wanting one for awhile but my parents are the "if it isn't broke don't replace it" kind of people. So I know she'd never get one for herself until their current tv broke lol
Its "Family"? Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with having some good time with people who raised you, who you grew up with....
I'm certainly not saying that you shouldn't be close with your family, I just don't think they deserve the head-start in trust and affection that society tends to hand them by default.
Something, something, respect your elders, something.
Taking Mom out to dinner with my brothers and Dad. Probably going to go for an edible arrangement too.
It is also an international day of victory of Nazi Fascism. Kind of ironic how some mom's can be nazis about plenty of stuff, but... I have only one mother, and there's plenty of nazis, so we will go out and together we will this glorious day of victory!
Bought my mom the Black wii bundle (wii sports resort inside) and wii fit plus.
Now I finally have all three systems D:
Sunday is also the 50th anniversary of the pill being legal in America. Ironic.
I haven't gotten anything for my step mom yet but I bought my mom a six pack of Great Lakes Holy Moses White Ale. My step mom's probably getting some flowers for her garden. I'll probably make my wife pick shit out since I'm working all day today.
