    If it's anything like previous years Sunderland will be declaring their first one in about 20 minutes - love the lengths they go to to do it. Mind you - they'd vote for a chimpanzee with a red rosette on up there as a general rule.

    Saw one of the BNP blokes out yesterday in the arse end of Derby - he was driving around with the most ramshackle MDF sign stuck to the roof of his car, looked like it was going to fall off any second - and surprisingly, prowling around the chav central end of town.

    I'm watching because I'm quite a sad closet politics junkie (it was my degree subject), plus I'm trying to spot people I know at the Sunderland counts. Laughing at all these morons who showed up too late to vote - they only had what - 15 bloody hours?

    Was actually incredibly busy when we went down about 6pm - first time I can ever remember having to queue to get my ballot paper.

    Only a few people here but in a rural village so there aren't that many people to begin with.

    Polling station also being a pub was a bonus to get people to go I think lol

    So it should be safe to say that the conservatives have won?

    I know it's too late now but out of curiosity, how would one vote if they are living outside of the country but are still a British citizen like myself?
    First hung parliament since 1974...I admit I had to google that and see what a hung parliament actually is. <_>

    I will be using the phrase "i'm hung like parliament" copiously for a couple of months now.

    I don't know 100% for Brits but I assume you do a postal vote at your nearest Embassy like most ex-pats around the world. The polling day for international votes is usually about a week before the actual election day. Before I realised my stay in the UK is a bit more permanent and I became a registered voter here I used to vote in Finnish elections at embassies in Dublin/London (whichever was nearest to me at the time).

    Basically it seems you just need to register, then you can postal vote or whatever, seems fairly simple

    So that means I'd have to travel all the way to Tokyo to vote...the money I'd have to pay to do that, I think I'd need more than 1 vote to make the trip worthwhile. ^^;

    Thanks Vigilia, long time no see! :D

    Edit @ Draggy ~ Oh, that makes more sense. It appears all you need is another British citizen to witness you sign some document then you can apply for it. Oh well, I'll be back in August for my last year of Uni, good to know for the future though. Thanks Draggy & Vigilia!

    I've not been following this in the media, but it looks as it stands, a liberal/labour coalition wouldn't even achieve an overall majority, even if their combined vote would beat the conservatives. Depends where the undeclared seats go but at best it'll be barely a majority for a non-conservative coalition, though I don't know how much each party's manifesto differs so I don't know how likely a liberal/conservative coalition is.

    Clegg has basically conceded that Cameron now calls the shots, I'd have hoped he'd stand his own ground more and really push for the electoral reforms the country needs(i'd hope anyone except diehard tories would agree).

    I'm no fan of Liberal democrat policies, but this election has proven the first past the post system is outdated and unfair, let alone the house of lords..
