They are the same. I bought mine for $4~ and it's worked perfectly fine. The stores are simply trying to make money.

Just make sure it supports HDMI 1.3a and it's all good.

This one here supports 1.3b which I assume to be somewhat superior... I linked to a cached link because Amazon UK is down lol ...
damn I can't wait 5 days!!!! (including weekend)
Crimp your own, bitches!
The above picture sums it up very well.
On top of retards selling them for an absurd price... no matter what HDMI cable you get, they're incredibly fragile, I've broken 4 already.
MONSTER CABLES ARE BOSS.
Waiting the five days is worth it. I spent $40 for 5 HDMI cables from Blockbuster (store is on my way home).
Monoprice.com if they ship to UK.
Found some in my local Tesco (slightly better than Walmart chain) for £5, I will do that as I do not want to wait for Amazon (can't find any under £2+2 with delivery). Will stop by on my way back.
I can't see the pic so will peek into this thread again when I get home![]()
While were on the topic here...... I recently purchased myself a new HDMI cable online, but noticed one slight thing.
One 6-foot cable was a "60 Hertz" and another from the same company was "120 hertz" for a few bucks more.
If this the extended bullshit on cables, or is there actually a difference?
Technically, the max resolution supported by the 1.2 spec was 1920x1080@60Hz. The bandwidth supported by 1.3 more than doubled it, so I assume you need that for 120hz/etc. You also need 1.3 spec for a number of other things, including HD audio.
So, I suppose in a way a 1.2 spec cable could be a "60hz" cable...but I don't see why anyone would actually be selling them as the 1.3 spec came out in '06. 1.3 does have two "categories" of cables as well, with category 2 being tested to higher speeds. Could also be category 2? I dunno.
Generally speaking though, it shouldn't matter. Just buy 1.3a compliant ones. Past that, unless you are doing long runs (like in-wall) where you might want heavier gauge cables, it should just work.
I've found HDMI to be a bit fussier than older interfaces, but necessary if you want all the modern features :/
(actually, thinking about it, the signal isn't 120hz either way...it's just marketing)
You're right, it's not. It's just marketing. The 60 vs 120 vs 240 etc... has to do with your TV and media station, not the cable.
If you've got a bells and whistles set up (full home theater surrond sound etc...) grab a 1.3a cable and you're good to go. Though I myself use the optical port on my PS3, because I don't have the greatest of receivers. Using the Logitech Z-5500 and it doesn't have a HDMI port of course. Not as good, but optical still sounds good enough (not an audiophile).
I got my credit card number stolen from Monoprice a few months ago. They apparently had a security flaw and a bunch of numbers were stolen. I found out when I had 800$ of bad charges on my card at the next billing cycle from a golf store in Texas...
My cc company took care of all the charges. Monoprice went ahead and gave me a voucher for a years worth of identity theft protection.
Despite all of this, I'd still order from them again with no hesitation. That's how good they are.
Hey guys, I got my cheapo one from the supermarket
Will order the even cheaper one off Amazon as a backup! Works nice and dandie :D
Learnt a lot too from just this, thanks !
I ordered two cables from monoprice and wasnt very happy with them, bought a couple from overstock.com, was good to go, same prices too.
funny thing about that picture. Dru used to work for bestbuy and before he quit he bought like 6 hdmi cables because employees get them for cost (what best buy gets them for) + 10%. They sold for $50+ and he got them for less than $5 each. And we kept them unti lwe got our TVs n' family got TVs etc.
People don't realize that bestbuy doesn't make money off of the TVs, playstations, computers, etc. Most of those are very little profit to cost ratio. They make their huge money off all the accessories you get for those things.
