Not that I support the use of this particular argument for this issue, since I agree about the social factor playing a larger role, but as an aside... I always figured females (in the animal kingdom in general) tried to make it hard for males to mate with them so only the strongest succeeded. I hadn't thought that females were as promiscuous as males, considering that males can spread their seed to any number of females to increase the chances of their genes being passed on, whereas females give birth to only a limited number of offspring during their lifetime and try to make sure only the best genes get passed on.
if a key opens lots of locks, then its a master key, but if a lock gets opened by lots of keys, then it's just a shitty lock
I would reccomend reading The Moral Animal by Robert Wright. He explains the female mating habits of several different species in wonderful and very accessible detail. Females do not play hard to get, they seek out males with the best attributes. Cuckoldry and adultery are common even in extremely "monogamous" species. It behooves both males and females equally to mate as much as possible.
/sigh. Addressing your comments in reverse order:
I never said it was "Ok". It's illegal, and for good reasons (funny, I'm sure that I said this several times). Maybe I missed it, but I don't think anyone in this thread is feeling sorry for the teacher.
You're right that I am making a couple assumptions about the kid, but then, so are you. You seem to assume that the kid is emotionally distraught and scarred for life. I say that you are projecting, and that, being a women, you are less qualified to judge how this situation will affect him. I say it's much more likely that he was welcomed back to class with grins/cheers and high-fives by his male peers and that he will look back on this time with fondness as many people in this very thread to whom similar situations have occured have apparently done.
The many many posts by men in this thread agreeing with this sentiment and expressing a wish that a similar situation had happened to them lends substantial support to my statement. I say that it is no coincidence that the ones most opposed to this view are women. This is why I prefaced my initial post on this line with
I don't know how to be more concise than this. I can't spell it out any more clearly. People keep making my posts about things that I never said. I tried really hard to avoid mentioning a lack of reading comprehension, but I can't think of any other way to say it. Context is important.Originally Posted by Sylvrdragon

Thanks for proving my point about double standards I guess.
I have to get ready for work now, so any further discussion on my part will have to wait till tonight or tomorrow. It's not my desire for the discussion to become confrontational, but I fear that's the direction it is heading. I'll try very hard not to make it personal.
I've got a minute to address that statement at least. Absent of an expert, for a situation regarding women, I would defer to another woman's opinion. It makes sense to lend a bit more weight to a man's opinion regarding issues concerning men. In the absence of a mechanic, do you take the word of a licensed driver or a life-long pedestrian? Nobody has thrown any credential out on the field, so I assume that we're all laymen here.
I never said anybody was right or wrong based on gender. What I said was

You apparently don't pay attention to anything when you post, as you reply to topics and then claim you weren't talking about said topic when people poke holes in what you were saying.Just stop. You keep taking everything I say out of context. I never said two High Schoolers shouldn't date. I said a teacher shouldn't date their student. You aren't reading what I write and coming up with your own things to claim "bullshit". Just stop now. It's retarded and unnecessary.
I responded specifically to someone calling the person a pedophile, saying it's not pedophilia. You said "It's having sex with a minor which is disgusing no matter what you want to label it as." In response I brought up the 17 year old dating a 16 year old. That has nothing to do with teaching figures. If you don't know what the fuck I'm talking about, then don't try to argue with me.
You're off by about 2 years, possibly more if anything has changed since I left middle school. You seem to forget that even three years is a lot of experience to gain. You're just entering the game at 15 or 16. You probably know how to play it by the time you're 20 or 21.
 The two don't always go hand in hand together. I wish people would come to realise this. In most cases, there's nothing wrong with a 18 year old having sex with a 16 year old, but it's still illegal. There's nothing irresponsible about it either.tl;dr: Illegal means it's wrong. That's why it's a law.
Blah blah blah blah I have no clue what I'm talking about blah blah blah blah. I'm sorry, that's all I got out of that.I suppose one of the benefits of having a pedophilic relationship with an older woman is that sex is the only possible outcome, and it is exempt from the mental, emotional, and developmental problems inherent in other forms of pedophilia that are not as fucking sweet as banging your teacher.
