Turn your DVDs to Bluray

I guess Bluray sales are sucking and DVDs still sell more, so now Warner Bros is offering to upgrade your DVD to Bluray (for a fee, but like 5 bucks).

Figured I'd through this out there in case people have DVDs they want to upgrade:

ya exactly. sadly, I guess the sales are so bad that they're thinking Bluray could get scraped and only use DVDs unless they can pick up sales.


Just wanted to point out their list is small atm, but I guess they're trying to see if this works, and if it does they'll add more.

I have an extremely hard time believing Dirty Dozen is going to look/sound much better on blu-ray than it does on DVD.

What condition do the dvds need to be in? Do you need orig box + receipt? or could i walk into a video store, buy something for 2 bucks and add 5 bucks = get blue ray?

Don't have a Blu Ray player yet but I have 25 DVDs on that list, this would probably be a nice start for me when I go Blu-Ray. Might need to use this since used DVDs are pretty worthless now anyway.

Also they only want the disc, no case or artwork.

I have an HD tv, and honestly? Blu-Ray just isn't worth the extra cost. When I can get a deal, sure, but while it does look better, DVDs also play on my computer.

BluRay sales were fantastic over Christmas, when there were deals in place.

Past few months nothing has come out sub $24.99 and that's why the DVDs have been selling better.

Mix economic recession with pimping a tech that, while better than DVD, certainly isn't a jump to many like VHS to DVD. Really, to make it work, you also need to consider a better TV and possibly a sound system if you wanna go that far. Just not money I'd say a lot of casual movie-goers don't have. I'm sure Netflix and the like picking up and also becoming more internet-friendly hasn't helped, either.

One way or enough, even if BR fades for whatever reason and DVD still hobbles along, DVD's still gonna need to be replaced eventually unless visual media somehow evolves to the point where it doesn't require as much data for HD.

If the retards would stop pricing their shit out of the market they'd probably be selling better. I haven't bought a BD in nearly a year because the $10-$15 premium over DVD price is the dumbest shit ever.

Oh shit this is nice, I have like 1200 DVDs and have started to buy new releases in blue-ray. I wonder if there is a limit on how many you can send in. I never gave a shit about blue-ray till I watched Avatar on both formats and the difference is amazing.

Edit: wtf there are like less then 50 movies to convert and most are shit movies anyway. lol

And the difference between dvd/bluray on visual shit is unmistakable.

I'd be really sold on something like this if more studios + tv show dvds could be done as well.

This program has been going on for quite some time actually. Warner Bros. also has a HDDVDtoBlu deal as well, if you have any of the defunct format they will trade them in.

There are several other companies that are doing this deal as well. http://www.disneyupgrade2blu.com/ it used to be quite similar to WBs but it seems they have cheapened it so its a coupon towards the purchase of the bluray version. Still a decent deal if you want Monsters Inc in Blu.

Its too bad the overall selection is so low, but at least its a cheap upgrade.

The OP is about regular DVDs... he was talking about HDDVD, which is a failed format that's no longer produced.
