You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

    2 PS3s and multiplayer issues.

So boytoy and I got a second ps3 not long ago for two reasons. 1. we already knew we wanted a second one since both of us want to play 14 on the ps3 instead of the computer (sitting on the couch ftw). 2. We love to play games together and for some retarded reason most games are multiplayer online only (even if it's co-op).

Problem is it seems like the ps3s don't want to "connect" online. I'm not sure if this is an IP issue or what.

I'm going to use Fat Princess for an example. If one of us was to make a match and invite a friend to join, it will idle forever and eventually say "could not connect to the game". Only way we can play together is if someone joins a quick match, and then the other joins the game they're in.

Another good example is Civilization. We wanted to play against each other, and about 80% of the time it can't because we can't join each others' match. On the few times it does work, within like 30 minutes one of us will get kicked and can't rejoin the game.

Really sucks cause like I said we love playing games together, and we thought this would be an easy solution considering there are few offline two player games, but a lot have multiplayer online modes. But this is really starting to get irritating as well lol.

I figure we must not be the only people with ps3s, so hopefully someone has already been able to fix this issue before.

The best answer I found on google (I didn't spend much time lol, so it might not be the 'best') was this:

Me and my brother just figured this out yesterday.. you have to have one wired connection for one PS3 and one wireless connection.

Go to Settings/NetworkSettings/InternetConnectionSettings. Click Easy/(one Wired Connection, the other Wireless)/then click Automatic settings for the remainder of the pages, Do not use proxy server. Note: If this does not work, then on the first page, click Custom instead of easy and follow the same steps.

Then perform an internet connection test, if both PS3 work then they should be able to connect simultaneously in COD MW2 or any other game. We played for ten hours yesterday and it was superb to finally be able to do it. We tried changing the IP address several times with no luck while both having wired connections.

I think you can also do it that way but I'm not a techie. Hope this helps.
look have one connected by wire and the other wireless....and then turn on UPnP on the wireless ps3 by going to network settings.......if upnp wont enable then u must enable it on your router by typing in your routers ip adress on the adress bar (where u type in website...but dont use www. or http just tipe in the ip adress....u can find ur routers ip on google by searching your brand of router......let me know if it worke or u need more help i just connected both of mine and play on the same matche s w my lil bro and i have a $20 ativa cheap router lol
Edit: If that doesn't work, another solution I saw was getting 2 routers.

i'm surprised there's no LAN option for multiplayer. l2LANparty, ps3 games.

But it sounds like some kind of domain issue if it is fixed by 2 routers or 1 wired/1 wireless (2 routers). I don't know if PS3s use a dedicated or random port number, but it could be possible that both PS3s are trying to share the same port even if they have separate IPs? If that were the case, i'm not exactly sure how to fix it

from a quick google search, i'd look into "port triggering" b/c it does look like a port issue

another possible quick fix would be turning off UPnP on your router, but i wouldn't rely on that working

hmmm kk thanks guys I'll have to discuss this with boytoy tonight then. There's no port in the room we're in, so I can't wire one up but maybe we can get a second router for it.

And I'll read up on port triggering too.

I have no clue what is wrong, however I can tell you that more then one ps3 can work at the same time without a wire. In my house we run 2 xbox and 3 PS3s sometimes at the same time. So ya >.> it can work

    GL getting it set up.

Routers with DMZ enabled can sometimes do this. It's really weird, some routers with DMZ will run games online fine but you throw in a third wheel or sometimes even trying to connect with a friend locally through the same ISP makes it wig the fuck out. Try logging into your router to see if DMZ is on and if it is, turn it off. Had the same problem over at a friends house. The router in question was a Linksys I believe.

are they playing together though? The ps3s have no problem running at the same time connecting to online stuff. It's when we try to play together that we have issues.

I'll have to ask boytoy to try it. We are not sure if we want to do the second router thing or not yet.

You could just get a wireless bridge but that's pretty much the same thing as getting another router, so it probably falls under the same option. I'm really surprised that two PS3s can't get online on the same network, I guess it must have something to do with needing certain ports to communicate with the PSN.

It's sort of been suggested, but get the boytoy to assign static (wireless) IP addresses for both PS3s, put one on the DMZ as suggested earlier and use port forwarding rules for the other. See if that works?
