Frooty Loops / FL Studio 8 or 9
Anyone know where I can find a free fully operational version of FL 8 or 9? I have used torrents but when I unzip them, the copy is usually a demo version, which is cool and all, except the fact that I can't save anything I do. Thanks.

wow i havent heard anything about Frooty Loops since Cakewalk 7 was new...... Which you can download cakewalk sonar 8 easily. I am pretty sure a guy i work with has frooty loops 8..... and if he does i can put it on a ftp tomorrow for you.

People still use frooty loops? I've been out of the loop a few years...
-
been several years since I've heard it mentioned also

Since FL is apparently not used anymore; what is pretty good to replace it? The aforementioned cakewalk?

depends what you want to do really. On good private torrent sites you can find FL Studio 9, and also Ableton Live is good. I use both for different things at home.

Sequel 2. Only $99 I believe with additional loop packs you can buy.

However, Cubase is much more in depth. Not sure what you're aiming to do though. But, if you're just working with loops, then check that out.

I think Fruity Loops is just that term everyone remembers as "something techno nerds used in early 2000 to make shitty music in highschool" whereas "FL Studio", being the same thing under an unfamiliar name is actually still used and has its own following. Still super easy to make sick/retarded drum loops, but as someone mentioned, it depends on what you want out of a DAW.
I'll throw Reaper in for my vote as its pretty intuitive and full-featured along with a "normal person" pricetag for consumer usage if you have a hangup about pirating. Otherwise it's free like every thing else.
