Ah, I was not aware that the patch brought CS up to date with CS2. That's even better then. I usually buy games for 360 but at times I buy it for PS3 instead because I know it gets lonely and tired of only being my media server. I'm also a casual fighting game player at best, so I'd probably put up about as much fight as a training dummy. Thanks for the info guys.

PS: How do people actually feel about the D-Pad on 360 compared to PS3? I know some of my friends in the past have bitched about the 360 D-Pad being poor for fighting games in general.

    Stick all the way.

If I had to pick which pad, I'd go with a dualshock since I learned GG way back in the day on a PS pad. I don't understand how people can play fighters on a 360's D-pad.

I'm not serious enough about it (yet, we'll see) to buy a stick, but the D-pad thing was my primary concern in deciding which console to go with. Sometimes I wish I had one or the other and not both so I wouldn't have to decide these things.

    I buy fighters for PS3 over 360 due to the controller. I'd agree, if you're really serious about playing, you'll probably wind up with an arcade stick, making the standard controller moot. Personally, I've only tended to play fighters much offline, with friends, so the gamepad is relevant. The Special Edition 360 controller may be better - I have one, but I use it as my PC's gamepad, and haven't tried a fighter >_>;

Honestly, based on the total clusterfuck that is PSN these last few weeks, I'll likely go ahead and get it for 360. I've always liked XBL over PSN anyways.

I personally prefer the 360 stick positioning over the dualshock's, but I'm putting together a stick next month, I may just splurge and make one for both systems.

You can piece together a tourney-quality stick for $90-110 by getting the low-tier SSF4 or WWE All-Stars mad catz sticks from gamestop, they only sell them in-store but you can search store availability near you online. The SF one costs $40 but is getting kinda rare, WWE is $60 but considerably easier to find. Getting sanwa buttons/stick, an octagon gate, some custom art printed on lami-label at kinko's, and some acrylic paint will run about another $50. The hardware is all plugs, no soldering needed to swap stuff, and the resulting stick is comparable if not superior to the $130+ Tournament Edition sticks they sell.

    Edit:

I think the only other difference is you don't need to buy/challenge unlock the DLC characters in the handheld versions, if it's like the PSP BB:CT. Though you did have to accrue points to unlock unlimited versions of characters, and unlock Astral Heat for most characters.
Was speaking strictly mechanics, the CS2 update for the consoles is just for the cast re-balancing and engine/gatling path/combo changes. It also updates the Challenge Mode combos since some of the original CS challenges are no longer possible to execute.

just in case when ppl say that the dualshock is better for fighters than the 360 is because of the dpad not the sticks.

Yeah I had meant to say the exact same thing lol, 360 dpad is awful, PS3 pad is good. For me personally the PS3 pad tears up my thumb after extended use and I'm plenty comfortable using the 360 stick, but I know a lot of people aren't a fan of it.

If you get to where you're comfortable with a stick(which takes a fair amount of practice even on top of the money) it's pretty much universally accepted that it provides superior control. I'm sure it'll be a decent learning curve for me, especially since I always bind barrier blocking and throws to triggers, and I really want to train myself to just press the full button input instead.

hmm, what happened to ranked matches since the CS2 patch? i'm locked out of everyone except for hakumen. i didn't play online much during CS1, but that's definitely new. also i'm tremendously drunk so i probably did something wrong.

possibly related to the last sentence, but holy shit i am absolutely terrible at this game now. so out of practice. i'm like 2 for 10 out of the matches i've played tonight D:

When select ranked matches, it asks you to pick which character you use and shows you your PSR for those characters. When you actually start a match with other players, you can only pick this character.

Attempted to play a bit through arcade mode last night and all I can say is Hazama can eat a giant flaming dick. By the way, what does it mean to unlock an unlimited character? It's my understanding you have to go through score attack with a character and then they are "unlocked?" What do you get from doing this?

It's pretty much like super. Most of the ppl that are on XBL are ppl who have been playing this game for a while.

If you want to do ranked matches, you can only choose 1 character before you look for an opponent. It's really shitty. Dunno why they changed it cos it wasn't always like that. If you wanna change characters between matches, you gotta go into a room.

I'm not sure exactly how you unlock unlimited characters, but it's basically a powered up version of the character. After you unlock one, you hold down I think it's L1 on PS3 on the character select screen. It should say what button you use and whether it's locked or unlocked under the character's portrait. You're pretty limited on when you can use an unlimited character. You can't use them on ranked matches and only in rooms if the owner has it set to allowed which most don't.

I'm assuming it was to prevent counter-picking abuse since odds are if your d-card showed your most played character......that's what you were going to pick against the other play, so they'd keep that in mind if their main is at a disadvantage.

Unlimited versions can either be bought as DLC or unlocked by clearing Score Attack with that character. Score Attack uses a difficulty setting that's higher than the highest one you an actually set for Arcade, and you have to go through the unlimited versions of Hazama, Hakumen, and probably Rachel or Ragna depending on who you're using, and there's no continuing after a loss. They aren't necessary at all, but if you want them to tinker with you're best off just buying the DLC pack, you can also just buy individual characters.

Also don't buy Mu from the DLC, you only need to clear Story mode to unlock her.

After getting my ass handed to me by Hazama a few times in Arcade mode last night on normal, that sounds more painful than taking a jackhammer to the balls. So story mode is how you unlock characters? I'd like to get Mu and whoever else I need to unlock. They are unlocked by default on the 3DS version, along with the DLC characters I believe.
