    Skate 3

So, I am curious are there any other BGers that are fans of the series? I have loved the game since Skate and both 1 and 2 held my interest for the 13-14 months before the next release. I picked up 3 yesterday and had some time to play it, and I can't say I dislike it but there are definitely some things I find annoying/broken.

For one, I was totally unable to create a Team, which seems to be the backbone of this release ("Team Up, Throw Down!") nor could I use the skate.Feed which is kind of a hub of info about DLC, high rated user videos/skateparks. Each time i tried I would get "An Xbox LIVE privelege restriction prevents you from using this feature"...

So I spent literally 3 hours going from my Privacy and Account settings in LIVE back to the game to try again, back out to desktop to change things, back to game, etc... until finally I fixed it. Turns out a combination of settings need to be set to "Everyone" rather than "Friends Only" or you won't be able to access some features. Ok...

There is a sad amount of framerate lag in the Create a Park area, which is offline. There are tons of people that have problems signing in to EA Nation or staying signed in. Some people are unable to upload a video or a park or a photo at all as they just get "An error occurred with EA Nation" messages.

They removed Local Mutliplayer apparently (moot to me, as I have only ever played it online with my friends). The list continues, but I don't want to bore anyone any further.

I am just curious if anyone else has bought this and what your opinions are. I find it kind of funny timing wise that the EA announcement about Used Games and DLC Access Codes comes out and now Skate 3 is having troubles. Don't get me wrong, I can still see myself getting sucked in to repeating the same stair to rail session for a literal hour on end... it just happens. The game though, just seems watered down. The areas are huge, but so wide open and almost empty feeling. The graphics have not improved at all, and the tricks are nearly the same as 2 with the addition to Darkslides and a couple other things....

eh, anyone else? I am tired of semi-ranting. I haven't decided WHAT I have decided about this game yet =)

I want the game bad, but it's a full $70 up here in Canada, which is a bit hard for me to justify when the doesn't really offer anything 'new' aside from a couple tricks, and a couple online modes.

I enjoyed the shit out of Skate2 when I finally grasped the controls (aside from SKATE mode, that was a bitch, but the help indicators in Skate3 may remedy that so I can see how the game is actually reading my input), played it for hours and hours, even platinum'd the thing.

Is the Create-A-Park an open empty area akin to the old THPS games, or is it like Skate2 where you just find a spot within the city, and then start dropping parts into it and calling it your park?

Only thing that really bothered me in Skate 2 (aside from bailing so damn easily, which they fixed in Skate3 according from what I saw in the demo) was the amount of time you spent waiting online between rounds because the stupid countdown timer was so high, I hope they lowered that drastically.

C-A-P is an actual 'building', and there are a few different skins as far as I can tell. The very first one that acts as your tutorial is in the first area you reach, which is Port Carver University i think? Anyway, there is a door there on your map (just like the Training Ground Park from S2) and once inside a) framerate drops noticeably, and b) you can remove everything inside and redo it however you want.

You also have the option to set locations, so that the 'walls' and therefore overall areas look different. I have seen an abandoned warehouse for example, open/rusted out ceiling that the light comes down into. Looks very cool. Sadly it is hard to actually skate in there due to the framerate. If you ever had a bad online match where your trick lags behind your input... it is just like that.

Again, the game is what it is. I think that it should have had more improvements being that it is NOT just an expansion, or a DLC area (also WTF at the Time is Money pack being out already... lame) but a full game. It just doesn't feel that much different.

Am I still considering dropping 150-200 on a Hauppage PVR so i can record Gameplay from my HDTV? ... Yes. See? I have issues.

Oh, another very large gripe that a lot of people have is the whole idea that Black Box was going to let us 'Film your friends online!' and even went so far as to release (now) confusing trailers that showed a character following a skater with a camera... just like you would expect. Well, the online Free Skate filming options are pretty damned barebones. There is not even a timeline, and you can rotate the camera but that is about it.

So far, my thoughts to any unsure would be... if you were one of those people that were still playing Skate 2 a year after it came out, hitting that same bench/rail/hubba and loving it... then this game is going to be no different. You will very likely like it for what it is.

If you are someone that had grown tired of the "same old same old" after awhile and where hoping for something new, or were looking forward to the online filming option, or even heavily used the Local Multiplayer options of S2... you may be as pissed as a lot of others are out there.

Europe already has the Share pack as well as the Filming tools DLC on top of that. I find it retarded to pay for filming tools honestly since they're already on the fucking game disc, they should give you all that and just 'charge' to have access to uploading a larger video file only.

Honestly, when it came to Skate2 I was a cheap-ass and grabbed it when I saw it for $19 at my local Walmart new, figured I'd give it a shot since the game had some rough edges when I tried the demo of it long ago (most notably the horrid off-board controls, which they tightened up with on the retail copy via patches), and my lowered expectations were well met when I finally grasped the game and learned to ignore some of its fucking retarded quirks.
(such as being repeatedly spawned right infront of the car I just crashed into during a Death Race -.- )

I'll be getting Skate3 eventually, but not at the full asking price, as there really isn't much else in the Skate boarding market, and just fucking around doing tricks in Skate2 never got old, which I assume the same with 3. Like the good ol' days of THPS before it turned into 300x combo infinite lines.

kinda skipped through the posts but it seems like you guys dont hate the game and thats a good sign. I've only played the demo of it(on hard mode onry!) and played the hell out of the skate 1 demo. It's a lot of fun yeah, i just cant bring myself to pay $60 for it lol. I have 2 games to trade in and even that wont knock it down under 35

I don't know how you could survive on Hard mode, I couldn't even complete the demo. I couldn't ollie worth a shit onto rail bars, and I could never hit that one bloody object in the far back on that Meat challenge from the tower.

Picked this up yesterday. This being my first time playing any Skate game, but being a big TH 1-3 fan, I wasn't sure what to expect. Loving it so far, and I'm doing everything I can in the campaign with my friend with the co-op feature. Makes some of the challenges fun, but sometimes incredibly frustrating if I can seem to Kill it and he can't or vice versa.

As for creating a team: I really had no idea what I was doing and figured it was a common feature in Skate series, so I just threw a name up and invited my friend to it thinking that was the way we had to do co-op (we were obviously very wrong). Haven't had any kind of problems signing into EA Nation nor staying connected to it and neither has he. We haven't tried to upload anything, but as far as signing in, staying signed in, or lag, we've had nothing of the sort.

The only problems I have with the game so far are:
-The countdown times between doing missions is absurd for what information it gives you. When my friend or I fail a session for the both of us, I don't need to start at my DNF for 15seconds; 5 will do just fine.

-Failing sessions multiple times in a row and being forced to watch that stupid intro movie time after time after time after timer after time....you get the point. I'm fairly certain you can skip this annoyance in single player, but I haven't found the right buton combination to do it yet in multiplayer.

-The PS3 voice chat is pretty god damn shitty in comparison to the Xbox and it's very discouraging considering he got a bluetooth from a friend for his PS3 and I dropped the money for the PS3 bluetooth which seems like it might have been a bad idea in retrospect. I'm not sure what the deal is, or if we just have some settings off, but he sounds like he's talking into a tin can and there's a constant pop on my end that sounds like my mic is popping popcorn.

-The create a skater is pretty damn pitiful. I don't know if I was expecting too much coming off the of the create a character in games like Dragon Age, Obilvion or even Home, but this is pretty damn bad. You can pretty much only make guys that look white or black; no middle of the road. Choices on things like hairstyles and such are pretty small too.

Other than those things, I'm really enjoying the game so far. I haven't delved too far into with create-a-park or video editing, but I'm sure I will at some point; I'm just having fun doing the sessions with a friend at the moment.

Stumptown team has been created if anyone wants to join =P

You know the more I play this the more i realize that a) these areas are HUGE and that is why they b) REALLY should have included the 'You are here' marker that was in the last 2 games. I spent almost an hour skating around the Downtown District looking for a rail i found last night. Seriously... an hour. Finally found it and figured out the best way to warp to it.

PS. for those of you that have this game are any of you playing it on 360? If so, feel free to add me as a friend. Graelinn is my GT. Hell, add me even if you don't have this game on 360 =P

Fuck Hardcore with a rusty spike.
Love the physics, the height, the difficulty...but fuck grinds.

I could take my own board out and ride it on my crutches and I'd still be able to hit grinds better.
Finally crumbled and set it to Classic Mode since I couldn't for the life of me hit a fucking rail properly.

Having fun so far though, nice to see some of the Hand/Foot-Plant animations have been cleaned up from Skate 2 and the off the board isn't so tedious either.

Oh, and Reda isn't chasing you all the time talking thank christ.
Did get a chuckle from the Berrics shirt though.

Hehe, yeah. Thank GOD Shingo is filming. I do really like this game. The areas really are insanely huge so again, WHY didn't they implement a marker on the map to tell you where you are?

I am hearing that there are weird glitches with the HD Filmer Pack. I have seen a couple of videos where the guy will upload a film of him getting hit by car. Once uploaded with the HP pack he gets hit by an invisible car.

I was pretty sure that I was going to buy the HD Filmers Pack, as I would like more space to save clips... but this glitch combined with the fact that my clips don't successfully upload 8 out of 10 times makes me really doubt it.

The intro movies to the challenges are annoying as you said, as is if you "kill" a challenge but your mate doesnt complete it, you dont get your score kept.

online is pretty fucked right now, no open world freeskate with you pals, several glitched cheev's, some other minor grievances.

other then that the game is solid, pre ordered it, got it in the a.m. and have been playing several hours a day since. good buy for sure as its a good pick up and play for anyone that might drop by.

Thank god it wasnt just me. Was starting to think they took it out the game or something.

    Which achievements are glitched?

Also trying to set up a team, and all that stuff was a nightmare last night, and i dont see a patch when i loaded it up so i hope the servers are stable.

If the map generally more interesting to trick around off of?

I used to just roam around in Skate 2 when I got bored, but other than the mega pound, that skate park, and the downhill sections of the town there wasn't much going on for it unless I wanted to make a skate video on a specific object.

Still waiting on the price to drop. I really don't know how EA gets off charging Canadians $70 for it when you got stuff like RDR sporting a shitload more content and value for your money for $10 less. Guess I'll pop Skate2 in later this week, see if the online community is still active, loved doing Own the Spot. Well, until you got some dweeb that does a 20-trick some line with abuse of manuals and then finishes it off right on the spot itself.

Got Skate 3? Want to bust kickflips as everyone's favorite outer space engineer, Isaac Clarke? By inputting the code "deadspacetoo" into the Cheats area under the Extras section, you'll unlock the Dead Space protagonist for use in Free Play mode. Who knew he could be so nimble in that outfit?

Keen observers may notice Clarke riding on a futuristic board. That's because, by inputting the code, you'll also gain the new deck. Sorry, it's non-transferable between skaters -- we tried.

Sorry to epic bump this thread, but my friend and I just recently downloaded the last DLC and topped our trophies for it and now we're left with really only Talkin' Bout Team Practice. Does anyone still play this game and/or have a big enough team for he and I to boost this trophy with? Trying to platinum and since we really just bought it and played together, we're not sure where to look for a team to get it with.
