THE FALLACY OF THE MIDDLE GROUND
is an argument which assumes that two or more opinions represent extremes on a spectrum, and that since such extremes are always wrong, the truth lies somewhere between.
Nancy claims she is pregnant. Biff thinks she is not. Therefore Nancy is half pregnant.
So yeah, claiming the middle ground simply for the sake of claiming the middle ground is a fallacy.
