This. As long as you have skills, experience, and some sort of a personality and work ethic finding a job shouldn't be difficult as long as you aren't totally deadset on working in one specific geographic location.

Just sucks when people don't reply back to you at all.

Well the problem was when I still had a job, trying to find another one was near impossible for some reason.

As soon as I started listing on my applications unemployed, I started getting calls from the getgo.

i'm from canada, i used to consult/work for a PPC/contextual advertising company in the Ukraine. That company did some major cutbacks and had to let go of all international employees, the day that happened I was hired by an Australian internet advertising company doing the -EXACT- same thing for 40% more salary and double my commission.

I live in the hudson valley in NY and job situation is trash pretty much. All we got around here is retail which isn't hiring and medical jobs which are but most require college.

Hiyro, if people aren't replying back to you it probably has more to do with your resume and/or lack of qualifications. Are you customizing your resume for every job you apply for or just blasting it out on careerbuilder/monster? Is your resume clean and easy to understand? Are there a lot of grammatical and tense errors? If you look good on paper, you'll at least get phone interviews unless you're really lacking in qualifications...

She is a supervisor/manager of a doctors office that does MRI/Xray/Cat/Nuclearmed etc and their company went bankrupt a while ago and the owners (they own tons of these places) squandered a LOT of money and tried to take off with it, think they just finished in court last week and are officially closing several offices today.

This isn't as much of a recession thing as it is a corruption thing, however I believe in this case they play together.

Mom is almost old enough to retire though so she'll be fine on unemployment. Think my Dad wants her home more anyway so she keeps his fire uniforms ironed lol.

Job scene sucks here in Montreal, at least it has for me so far. I got called back a couple of times but my experience does not match what they look for. Since I come from a place where you don't streamline your jobs, i.e. you fucking do everything even if it's not your job to do it, I end up with having lots of skills but not enough in a specific one to qualify for anything. And yes, I prettied up my resume, write cover letters from scratch and proofread every time I send one out. I guess I'm gonna have to try the whole Canada then to find a job.

It's pretty crappy here as well. I have friends staying in school to avoid looking for jobs, or taking up parttime positions they know will end just to get some income. I got lucky -- my mom works at a bank who was hiring temps to assist with increased volume, she got me a job here in a different department, and now I'm applying for a fulltime spot. It takes a while, but everyone can get a job somewhere if you look outside of your education. Skilled positions are always in demand I think.

Years ago people get into jobs like this because there is always a need for it, always a security blanket. That's no longer the case and it's becoming risky. I know a few cops in the academy that will not have jobs when they get out. Due to civil service, the lowest people on the seniority list/totem poll are laid off, so all the old guys that are 50-65 out of shape slow still employed and still come to work even though they are useless are keeping jobs from young 21yr olds that are in perfect shape.

That's how it is all over basically. I see all these people pushing retirement, refusing to leave their job and fucking over up and comers. I can understand why though, the retirement system is shit and they want to make sure they have some money to fall back on, or just love the job. But i'm bitter as fuck since i'm on the last pole of the ladder lol.

I'm not sure about my area, but my company just recently started hiring a lot of people after having been on a freeze before my coming on (6 months ago). Seems like it would be good, but there's talk of a freeze on raises now, so I'm not sure what to make of it.

Place I work is actively hiring when we don't need people, though I believe the upper corporation aspect (Linamar) are supposed to hire X number of people by X date so they may just be trying to burn through that number

Where I am, and for what I'm qualified for, people are mainly hiring nonexperienced (health care/retail) or nurses. Seems to be about the only crap in both industries. Can't find shit and when I do, no callbacks. I've had a total of three callbacks and have applied to over 80 jobs 10months. One led to an interview where the schedule ran into my class time (working on master's) so that sucked...
