Not to mention, the entire thread operates off the mentality that masculine is good and un-masculine is bad.

having qualities appropriate to or usually associated with a man
    http://www.merriam-webster.com/netdict/masculine

By the "real" definition, the answer is an extremely clear no.

And by the "real" definition, it's an entirely meaningless question.

Perhaps you should state what you really mean by masculine and what you're trying to imply.

Or perhaps the gays do not think that this a problem that needs to be rectified.
You show by example and educate over time.

What you do not do is cram legislation down people's throats like some would want. Like the supporters of affirmative action do, or those who support the banning of Holocaust denial. If someone is wrong about something then reality still is what it is regardless of how they feel. Over time the more rational types would see their influence grow and the irrational would be rejected out of hand just like racists, or sexists, or holocaust deniers. You can't force someone to believe something is true. Your reasoning can convince someone or it doesn't. Either they agree or they don't.

What about attraction to transsexuals? Is a man fucking a MTF transsexual gay? What about a man fucking a FTM? What about women fucking MTF or FTM? Or two transsexuals fucking each other?

Gender isn't binary (male/female, gay/straight) or even necessarily trinary (e.g. along the lines of "male/female/other"). There's a whole spectrum that becomes very messy when you try applying the simplistic perception people have of "gay" and "straight".

Although the first page or so of this thread was mostly garbage posts, I appreciate the legitimate discussions I've read. It's also pleasing to see someone pointing out that atheism and liberalism aren't unconditionally tied to, shall we say, "broad-minded" individuals. In fact, I oft cringe while describing myself as a "liberal," simply because too many people who bear this label aren't really very liberal at all. I do wish I had a more appropriate term.

Coincidentally, this thread is also a good case of improper, incomplete, or -- if we're to sound more pretentious -- uneducated application of a term, as masculinity can simply refer to physical and emotional strength. Indeed, if one reads about it and doesn't simply listen to what their neighbor says, many examples refer to the impressiveness of a man's physique and the accomplishments he's made -- things no less achievable for a homosexual. It's also perfectly fine to interpret masculinity in this way, as it is just a social construct.

Also, a walk through West Hollywood should set the record straight on whether there are tons of idealistically attractive gay men or not. Fuck yeah, Boy Town.

Except he's a troll, so he didn't ask the extremely simple and obvious "no" question of "Does being gay mean you're not masculine."

He's asking directly if gay sex is masculine, which is just, well, trollbait.

That would imply that only gay people would ever engage in male-male sexual relationships.

edit: that would also imply that being gay is just about having sex with another man. Gay is also an identity.

Flannel shirts are masculine. Just wear one of those at all times and you're fine.

These guys who are still dealing with their insecurities believe in that stereotype that most gay men are not masculine, and that they some how are irregular because they're masculine, and so they must pursue other "straight acting" men to validate their masculinity.

They tend to get over this once they realize that gay men are as varied in their masculinity as straight men. Their masculinity identity crisis comes to an end and they continue on with their lives.

    ymmv
Call me crazy, but I see heterosexual male masculinity as something entirely different from "str8 acting" gays--who are separate from your bears and the like. There's definitely a difference between masculinities in different subgroups. They're all distinctly NOT heteronormative "feminine", but they're certainly not all the same kind of masculine. There's something intangibly different about them all.

I think homosexuality is being attracted to the general features of your own sex. Beaten to the punch

So yeah. Rulebreakers. I used to consider myself "androsexual" because I was primarily attracted to masculine men, but then discovered that FTM transexuals can be sexy, too (and in 24hrs I rationalized vagina into an a-ok possible experience.) So now I consider myself polysexual, still primarily leaning towards masculine men (with the idea of being in a relationship with a FTM entirely different and satisfying in it's own way.)

    Incoming food analogy:

It's like enjoying ice cream and fried chicken. Both are very different, but taste good in their own way. You get full from either (or both if you're like that) and everyone's happy. Ohshit there's brownies. Complicated? No, simple when you stop trying to apply labels to everything. It's food--you like it, it's delicious and filling. Sure, there's a reason we desire order and enjoy classifying things, but some things are so nuanced that developing terms and words to differentiate and capture each element of the entire experience just makes things more confusing. Eat your food and shut up. (*'-')

My two favourite food/sexuality metaphors/whatever: 1) chocolate and vanilla aren't actually opposites, just different flavours, 2) taste the rainbow.
